Timing of announcement might have been pre-empting a newspaper reveal, or might just be a decision taken to explain/get away from recent reports that he's a bit of a cock at work.

Back in the early 90s I had an after 6th form job at a glasses lens factory (exciting) the owner played golf with Philip Schofield & he came in at the height of his gordon the gopher fame for soem free glasses, there were no shock revelations about his sexuality, but what was surprising was that he was grey then & he had quite a bit of roots showing, for years no one believed me either!
Back in the late 80's I parked my car up in a public car park in Leeds, and just got out when Philip Schofield pulled up in his range rover and started shouting "that was his spot" and "don't I know who he is" etc So as far as I am concerned he is a complete arshole and his nice guy image is just that, an image.

I stood next to big yinn Billy Connolly pissing in a bar in Scotland. So pissed he was propped up against the wall and swaying. I couldn't understand much but it was happy and friendly sounding.
