“I’d be safe and warm if I was in LA”

Warm maybe (Although the temperature can drop significantly at night)

Safe? Los Angeles is within the top ten cities in the US for homicide so that is questionable.

The Charlatans, “The Only One I Know”

So Tim, the other 12 album’s worth of content, did you need a teleprompter?

Came here to mention the 'I need you like the desert needs the rain' nonsense and saw it was already done... so instead:

but it says all the leaves are brown. The leaves on my hedge stay green all winter even though the fallen leaves that have gathered under them are brown. I think you’d only get all brown leaves during a nuclear winter.

“I’d be safe and warm if I was in LA”…. Do they fear LA isn’t there anymore?

is this all a veiled reference to the aftermath of the cuban missile crisis and the new generation of intercontinental ballistic missiles that consequently became operational in the year the song was released?

No. But there was a Cuban link. They were referring to the cuban cigars they liked to smoke. All the tobacco leaves of which are indeed brown. The sky is grey due to the clouds of smoke from said cigars.

If we’re being pedantic-

Dinosaurs were never domesticated and certainly didn’t require walks

'I can't get no satisfaction' so he was quite happy then.

Three pages of this world-class pedantry and no one's flagged-up Wham!'s finest hour:

"Club Tropicana,... blah blah blah

All that's missing is the sea"

and then just c.four lines later:

"Watch the waves break on the bay".

Always makes me shout something at the wireless.

When will I, will I be famous?
I can't answer, I can't answer that
When will I see my picture in the paper?
I can't answer, I can't answer that

Surely he got his answer fairly rapidly and should have stopped asking the question?

Ed Sherans "Bad Habits"...

from the chorus

"My bad habits lead to late nights endin' alone
Conversations with a stranger I barely know"

Surely if you know them even just a little tiny bit then they are no longer strangers?

Or am I the only one who was bugged by this?

– if the leaves are brown, isn’t that still technically autumn? No, meteorological winter starts on 1st Dec and oaks could still have leaves, as well as beech and hornbeam which would hold some leaves all through winter.

They’re in California…

No, they are California dreaming - i.e. dreaming of California.

I go back to one of my favourite examples:

”There are 9 million bicycles in Beijing - that’s a fact, a thing you cannot change.”

I still insist, if there are indeed 9 million bicycles in Beijing - you may have a heist that removes a number of bicycles from Beijing - meaning there are no longer 9 million bicycles.  So, it is not actually a “fact, a thing you cannot change.”

Katie Melua, may have been better off stating that  ‘There are at least 9 million bicycles’.

Also, a fact can change.  An hour ago it was raining outside my window.  Now, it has ceased to rain.  It may have been previously a fact - but that fact has changed.

Yeah, that’s the point I meant to make earlier. Wherever the writer/singer is it’s clearly winter somewhere north or northeast, cold and dreary.
England in July?

Topical one. The original “30 years of hurt” should really have been 26 years as England were world champions for four years after winning the World Cup.

I should add that I read this recently. It’s not something I thought of myself.

I was just thinking of similar myself. I suppose WC26 will be 30 years of 30 years of hurt (or 26, if you will)

But the point I wanted to make is - it's coming home.

It isn't, is it. I was born a couple of years after 66. And it's never coming home at least not in my lifetime, is it?
