I’m a tool collector, I love tools. I also love organising my tools. I’ve been following Tool Box Wars on Instagram. I now what to put my bike tools in cut out foam in a hard case. Unfortunately I don’t have Pelican case money to spare.
Anyone got any suggestions for lower price plastic tool cases?
Search for 'hard carry case' on eBay and you'll find all the Pelican rip offs. I used 2 of them for camera gear for around 10 years and they're battered but perfectly functional.
I'm planning to buy another one when I make my road trip tool box.
They're probably not bulletproof or fire proof or whatever Pelican claim to be, but if they ever get tested to destruction your tool kit will probably be the least of your worries.
B&W are like Peli but tend to be a bit cheaper.
Else worth looking at the power tool ones, Makita makpac, Dewalt, etc do them. Also the gun/ammo ones like MTM (look on sites like Brownells) can be good quality and value too.

Pelican cases aren’t quite unbreakable, I managed to snap the lanyard loop off one just by having a split-ring attatched, and the twisting of the ring snapped the plastic. The new one I’ve got I made up a lanyard using part of a narrow nylon dog lead, one end threaded through the loop then stitched, so I can loop the handle end around my belt and thread the wallet through.
Under normal use, though, their cases are pretty good tho’ spendy. I’d love one of their travel carry-on wheeled ones, but need the lottery win first.
We have loads of peli cases at work and have used them for years, now moving to the Dewalt tough system 2 with shadow foam, cheaper and the ability to clip them together is very useful. So far just as tough and waterproof
Plano do decent rifle cases, Decathlon do cheap ones. As a form factor though they're shite for transporting in anything and their size could make them very quickly become unmanageable lumps. I dread to think how heavy some of those cases are, I struggle to imagine anyone other than someone literally carting their livelihood around with them living with something like that.
Personally I'd look at tool focused Sortimo L-Boxxes, Tanos Systainers or the Dewalt Tough System. They're smaller but won't suffer as much from being packed as you can't stick too much in them and can be stacked for transport.
Have a look at http://www.max-case.co.uk/ shop around for the best price though they are for sale on Trifibre, Amazon and a few other sites. I have a couple and really rate them for the price, they either come empty or with some cheap pre-cubed pick and pluck foam.
Lomo make some reasonably priced ones.

I’ve got one for for my 27 iMac, total beast currently in use as a living room table(but ready for my return).
I did get it new off eBay new but wow nothing like the current prices and I thought it was spendy at a tad under £300, it’s nice but not heading on for a grand nice.
