average UK commuter travelling 54 minutes a day.

! !!!!

Really? Mental!

Not really solving any problem, it's it. It'll never catch on.

An enclosed trike or bike with space for two and a waterproof cover, maybe even with an electric motor (e-trike™) would be a better solution to commuting in cities.

Sounds good

A petrol-powered pedal-car? Occupies the same space on the road as a regular petrol-powered car.  How much fuel does the human input save? Per mile?  On average?

I've always wanted an A4 that smells just like somebody sleeps in it

I got one like that! But mine only has 2 wheels... er, and no bodywork.. or roof. It has pedals though and gives me a workout on my commute! And I don’t have to sit behind all the other cars 😁

So increased requirement for AC yet no overall benefit to pollution or roadspace.

First two comments under the article say it all IMO.

Riding a bike = insane because people who ride bikes are insane.

Pedaling (sic) an exercise bike located onboard a polluting combustion engine within a 1.5 ton steel box with AC running high and constant to keep cool = the only sane commuting option.  Especially as the energy from pedalling is 99% wasted as it simply signals the vehicles accelerator.

When the self-driving shuttles finally arrive en-masse then he can install a full multi-gym in those bad boys.  No need to go outside ever.

Didn't there used to be a bike attachment for the PS2 so you could use a turbo trainer as the throttle and turn Gran Turismo into a sort of Zwift?
