[Closed] Pancake poisoning

My wife kept referring to British pancakes as French pancakes, then started an argument with me about how weird my recipe for French pancakes was and then told me how they'd behave. Only been making these for over 20 years...

I may be British now, but I am just confused over what constitutes a pancake here.

What do [I]you[/I] mean? Because frankly, I can't see how pancakes like the ones above could accommodate the sorts of sauces that cranberry describes.

Those are quite the thing, I always keep 2 packs in the freezer in case of emergencies 🙂

If I'm feeling carb load mode I'll poach a couple of eggs, 3-4 rashers of bacon, plaster each pancake in hollandaise sauce and a pint of black coffee, sit back, scoff and burp.

The thin things produced by thin batter are frisbees :-))

Sweamrs is insisting our pancakes are savory and healthy 🙁

However she's going out for the evening and so won't be able to notice if sweajnr and I ignore those instructions... 😀

On a house holiday a few years ago we got into a pancake eating competition, the last two standing were the skinniest two people there (me and another lad). We were both well into the high teens if not 20s.

4 pancakes and you think you've overdone it OP?

I had 3 savoury crepes/English-only-eat-pancakes-once-a-year pancakes with cheese, ham and chorizo.

Followed by 6 North-American-yes-they-really-are-pancakes pancakes, with maple syrup, blueberries and a dab of whipped cream.

Now that's pancake overload....

(And I can happily get back on the diet tomorrow.)

Crepes use wheat flour so are not pancakes, drop scones contain bicarbonate of soda so are more like a bread hence scone.

I've very recently had the type of pancakes you refer to me prepared by a Canadian friend and served with genuine Maple Syrup (not the US stuff bottled in Canada).

And English pancakes are better, but, if I'm honest. The French do them better.

Typical cake ingredients are flour, sugar, eggs, butter or oil, a liquid, and leavening agents, such as baking soda and/or baking powder.

Swedish equivalent eaten today on pancake day. plus creepy Swede.

My grandmotherr use to make scotch pancakes or drop scones as they're known around here, they were served as part of a cream tea as they're a scone.

20 odd of these consumed here this evening. Ham, cheese, sugar, lemon, maple syrup, bananas and ice cream in various combinations as accompaniment.

Stopped at 11, feel ill now

There were some left, so so had another pair to take my total to 11 for the night.

I was restricted to two by the wife 🙁 she wasn't very well so we had some from a packet, she had two, and I wasn't allowed to eat the remaining 6 because it would be 'gluttenous'

I'm on my pancake comedown now, managed to pack away seven;

1: Honey
2: Meatballs with some sort of tomatoes sauce and cheese
3: Apples
4: Apples and blueberries
5: Hot dog and nutella
6: Yogurt and honey
7: Blueberries and nutella

Followed my whimpering on the sofa. Reckon a ride tonight to work some of that off.

Grew to love it when we lived in Holland. I'll not defend it, i know i deserve no pudding or power kites.

I got home to find 5 left in the oven for me.

1 Nutella
1 squirty cream and nutella
1 squirty cream, lemon juice and syrup
1 lemon juice and syrup

And the kids had squirty cream and nutella on the last one.

Re. the thickness debate, they shouldn't be as thin as a crepe, but they should certainly be thinner than scotch pancakes, to enable filling holding and rolling up.

100% correct. I had 3 cheese+ham, then 2 nutella+squirty cream, and a lemon+sugar one to finish.

(Nothing wrong with drop scones of course, but they're not proper pancakes).

[i]Chickpea Pancakes with Cajun Chicken and Sweetcorn Salsa[/i]

The "pancakes" were just Gram Flour, ground coriander, chopped coriander stalks and water. Egg and gluten-free, but very tasty.

We also did "banana pancakes" for the kids, which are also not [i]proper[/i] pancakes: just two eggs + one banana, mashed up, fried and served with Nutella or honey 😀

My bottom wasn't very happy with me this morning. Not sure if it was the cider or the pancakes.
