Looking for a new compact camera, around this sort of price range (150-170). I remember from previous threads that these two are model lines are normally rated pretty highly among you lot. Currently drawn towards the panasonic for the Leica lens...but should i be looking at the canon more, or any other cameras out there?

Canon. I have the ixus 40 from a few years ago does the job, small easy to use, good battery and pictures are ok as well. The main thing I like is that it's quick when going in and out of menu's.

I'd stick with the Panasonic, got one of the compact ones with 10x optical zoom (poss just outside your price range for the older versions but worth hunting for) and it is a fantastic bit of kit.

Have bought one for my dad who loves it and considering getting another as my wife uses it for work lots and I rarely see it.

I have an IXUS 50 and it's still going strong despite landing on it several times MTBing. Takes superb quality photos and easy to use.

Google canon lens error E18 before you commit to a Canon, it happened to my Ixus 50, once it does the camera is only fit for the bin - (repair costs more than camera is worth ) Good pics whilst it worked `tho.

a curious recommendation "pics OK, but good menus"!
I mainly use the menu on my camera to set/unset daylight saving time...
