In my early forties, my OH has me kitted me out almost entirely from Atom Retro.

So when I'm not rocking the traditional 'middle-aged-rock-climber-stroke-mountain-biker' look, I seemingly attempt to look like Steve McQueen.

Actually works for me, apparently. YMMV, my body shape hasn't really changed from my 20s which probably helps.

I have a corduroy shirt from the aforementioned universal works.

An attractive 25 year old at a party told me unprompted that I look good in it. That’s good enough for me. 😁

That was nice of him.

When I was a young child I used to hate my mother choosing my clothes for me. Now, I’d rather go out looking like Dominic Cummings, than let my wife choose what I wear!

Well I thought #### it, and bought more vintage style stuff. It turned up, wore it for sundays festival of swing, felt a million dollars. So I'll stick with it every day.

vintage is fine. There seems to be some misconceptions here. Style and class do not equal trendy and fashionable. Class is permanent, fashion is empheral

OK just for shits and giggles and to hopefully start the ball rolling.... Here's everyday type of dress for the school run 🙂

Jacket - Fjallraven
T shirt - Armor Lux
Jeans - Edwin selvedge tapered
Trainers - Saucony
Glasses - Oakley

Not claiming any high fashion just good quality staples innit.

[img] [/img]

And yes - I am chubby, thanks.

Where’s Wally is looking a bit older nowadays 😉

Just to level things I look like Casper the Friendly ghost with a beard (and occasionally clothes) and also wear Oakley glasses and selvedge denim. Vivo barefoot in the footwear department and rarely wear a coat or jacket.

Ba doom tish!

But yes, I know I should have a t shirt that says 'fork you' with a picture of some bombers, or an obscure sci fi film reference, or something equally cool. My apologies.

I'd make it a law than anyone over about 35 shouldn't wear shorts and/or sleeveless vests in public. Young fat people probably shouldn't either.

It should also be illegal for anyone over 18 to walk around with a naked torso especially in a supermarket. During the summer, a man of about 65 was walking the trail near me with a naked torso and I still feel ill thinking of that image.

Sandals with no socks should be illegal too. Death penalty for wearing them on public transport especially planes.

Are you saying sandals should be worn with socks? Just need to clarify before reporting your post for crimes against humanity.

I do both of the above and I'm 41. I don't intend to sweat in full attire, I wear what's comfortable and what fits me.

My intention is neither to look nor feel younger than I am. I work out. I ride and I feel in the best shape of my life.

There are many, many, many prime examples of people half my age, three times my size and 10 times less fit than I am. Wearing aforementioned attire and looking (IMHO) a damn sight worse than I do. Through them being fat and lazy.

Discuss.

I must say I’m a little disappointed in the pics so far. Whilst I’m in the wear what you like camp, I was expecting more David Beckham than Johnny Vegas from those professing style 😂

I'm sorry that you feel threatened by my handsomeness/stylishness. 😘

'Wear what you like' ie 'my wife buys my clothes at Asda'

😀

What you’re wearing is fine by me. But, they do sell jeans, t’shirts, anoraks and orthopaedic shoes in Asda.

You'd be so jealous of my super-tanned shoulders.

'Fake' tan of course 😁🤔

Also... sleeveless !== vest

Sleeveless top - Check
Shorts - Check
Questionable accessories - Check

Worryingly, I can't find a single pic of me in "normal" clothes, it's all suits at weddings or running kit.

Over 50, Levi 510s with a patterned Guide London shirt and proper shoes has been my staple for work. I also keep a Paul Smith suit in the office for bike commuting. I never wear a tie - even when on company business, just nice shirts. It helps that I at least have the body of a teenager 😉 Lockdown is more boring 3/4 length pedal pushers and a polo/short sleeved/casual shirt. I still can't bring myself to wear a T-shirt during office hours! I don't own a sleeveless top (pale skin), nor a music-related top, but do have some embarrassing (to my sons) tight shorts. They're just jealous since I am smaller than both of them.

What you see in oldgit's picture is two people happy in their own skin and confident as a result. The clothing is pretty irrelevant.

Very often iffy dress sense in older chaps and chapesses is making up for insecurities deeper down.

60% of the time I’m outside the house I’m wearing shorts.

This year particularly, I've worn trousers maybe 5 times since April. Working from home clearly plays a big part in this, but even then I'd be wearing them any time I'm out but not at work.
Trousers will come back out again in November I reckon.

3/4 length pedal pushers and a polo/short sleeved/casual shirt.

Let me guess - mirror shades ?

Great pic TJ. My only advice would be to get your trousers altered to a shorter length. And I'd be having a word about leaning on the car when it's so nicely polished.

edit: I love 3/4 length shorts. There, I said it.

oldgits lawn is looking abut patchy in places and the bushes in the top right of the picture could do with a trim.
