Good on you for speaking out - if more people did things like this we'd have a more tolerant society.
I'd be tempted to find out who the owner is and write them a letter.
If that was the owner I'd name and shame.
Come on...tell us the name of the place. I'm up that way this weekend.
I'll see if I can get my wife to pretend she doesn't speak any English, then hit him with a full on English accent when he starts being rude.

Exactly right, which is why I don't want to name and shame. I perceived it initially as being a race issue but on reflection he could have been indicating anything at all. But still didn't excuse his behaviour towards them.
sounds like he was shocked that you said something, and just said the first thing that came into his head. either way he shouldn't be dealing with the public, and because you witnessed his behavior you should inform his boss, and name and shame. please.
