So, it's time to bin the powerline adapters.

How do I get reliable internet in my garage which is separate from the house?

Some kind of mesh thing?

Cheers,

Mick

Mesh is better than powerline. Cable to the router is the best option though

I use powerline, it's decent and useable as my Garage is around 20m from the house.

I used TP Link products.

Bit of a mix here.

Initially had powerline and wifi using a TP Link AV600 kit. Since going Mesh, I've diabled the Wifi on the extender, but have my Zwift PC and the CCTV recorder linked via Cat5 to the powerline adapter. I have the router next to the phone socket at far side of house (not ideal), then mesh disc at other side of lounge, then another disc in my garage, which relays the signal out to the shed, where I am working everyday. We did this over 12 months ago TBH. The signal is really good where ever we are on the property.

Could have ditched the powerline, but the CCTV isn't wireless.

I installed 6 Tenda MW3 mesh boxes (£69 for 3 from Amazon) on Tuesday and it's seemingly solved all the wifi distribution issues. No more dead spots in the house.

Caveat this by saying that, due to being the el cheapo version, they aren't probably the best if you have superfast fibre but seem fine on my shonky 12Mb sky ADSL.

Mesh can work ok for shorter distances / easier materials.

Beyond that, something like the Ubiquiti Airmax is good, cheap(ish) wireless link kit. The boxes are properly weatherproof so you can mount on the outside of your house and garage. You’ll get a properly quick, reliable connection between them - you will need to run cable to the boxes though.

I was thinking something like this:
