Brilliant thanks, not been back.

Punishing you for breaking a law was very effective then.

Effective would be him not speeding again, not the blanket cessation of partaking the area's tourism or sportives...

No, Ulysse troll fail. He didn't even bother to find out Jamba hadn't got a ticket for speeding.

Still at least he's given up on blaming the police.

Clever is the word I would use. Makes sense to target a large event as it is likely that they will get more "custom" and thus remind a few more people what absolute idiots and other rude words that the STW filter will sabotage.
Good on them.

Good on the police. Perfect time to keep order on roads, when thousands are around at risk from the tools that speed.

One can only hope they are on the A9 shortly, I hear a Caddy is somewhere here with a stoned driver.

I'd have thought the opposite were true. More people = heavier traffic = slower speeds as everyone's stuck behind everyone else. Depends on the roads though of course.

OK so, exactly how large does an event need to be before you're allowed to speed? What other offences does it apply to? Can I, for instance, commit arson on the way back from the Glentress Seven?

That entirely depends on what you burn down. I can send you a list of acceptable targets if you like? ๐Ÿ™‚

There isn't significant congestion on the roads after an event like that, as people go in their own time.

Of course I'm the worst hypocrite of all as I didn't see the van and thus presumably was too knackered to pay sufficient attention to the road. Though maybe it wasn't there at the specific time I was driving.

I guess that you can rape and pillage your way home after the Great North Run. Something like William I's Harrying of the North.

They protect society, sometimes that means protecting it from itself.

Most sensible thing I've read on this type of thread for ages

Am I'm been unfair. Ran the three peaks fell race today amazing event and absolutely brutal. On my way home

Pity you didnt run there not drive, polluting the area with your bile against the police and pollution from your vehicle.

Yesterday meet a lady whos husband was killed by a motorist while riding his bike, he was a competent athlete,

The van was parked right next to some houses on the edge of a small hamlet, how dare they !

My friend who was driving (who had also just run the 3 Peaks) didn't quite see the van and I had to tell her to slow from about 38ish.

Then the other friend in the car told us about part of his job where he gets to pick parts of bike/car/body out of the fields around that road, as it is well known for being a race track.

Bet you were glad no one was driving over 100mph (quite possible) when you were running on the road towards Ribblehead viaduct ay OP?

And finally a random pic from the 3 Peaks Race, which had an amazing record women's time !

The people who operate the camera vans aren't that bright and certainly aren't into running. They just park randomly in places where there's a bad accident record.

It's not random then is it? It's an accident blackspot at a busy time (rush hour on trunk roads, Dales on a bank holliday, etc).
