I currently use a locking slider mechanism on my trainers laces and I've just been looking on ebay for alternatives. There seems to be several - curly elastic, knotted elastic, silicone hooks, etc... Anybody tried any of these - recommendations?

Depends on how tight you like your laces to be, but I found the knotted elastic ones were quite slack even when tightened to the point where I could hardly put my trainers on.
The pull tab ones with a locking slider are much better but the number of times the end comes off was kinda annoying.

I've got these on my running shoes, I found it helped accommodate swollen feet without having to stop and re-tie laces. A dab of superglue in the pull tab after trimming the laces stops it ever coming apart.
Downside: look like a triathlete.

Get shoes on and off quickly (triathlons)
Lets my feet swell up on runs (me)
Shoe seems to fit better if it get's soaked on a run and the material shrinks/goes baggy.
Or to flip the question around, is there an advantage to traditional laces?

Faster, easier - originally developed for triathlon transition.
Also the laces don't wear out from the repeated tieing/untieing.
