can you confirm that the autofocus will work with my D3100. I think this bloke has confirmed it

Yes, but it won't autofocus. I don't think.

It'll auto-expose but not auto-focus.It's an AF-D lens.

Don't think it will autofocus as it doesn't have it's own autofocus motor...

Bit wider and a bit more expensive, but this one will autofocus on your camera...

but it's a DX lens so perhaps not so great if you intend to move up to a full frame sensor any time soon...

As an owner of this lens on my D3100 - as above.
It won't autofocus. It will operate with the D3100 focus aid at the foot of the screen.
I also have the 35mm DX which I use far more since it's closer to the 50mm focal length which I wanted.

Thanks, I had thought the "AF" meant Autofocus. Looks like the AF-S primes are a bit out of my reach unless anyone can recommend something close to £100
