Time for a new phone- I don't fancy a Samsung again and I'm still unsure on Apples- I'd look at the 6 but the monthly cost is 😯

On the Nexus 5- a good phone? Does it struggle with the internet etc?

Sony and HTC will probably be better on battery life. I prefer pure android and knowing I will get updates as its a Google phone.

I've got a 4, my wife has a 5, I'm jealous as it's a great phone. The difference in quality on the camera alone is really evident. It struggles with very little, other than mentioned above. If you use it heavily the device won't run for a whole day!

The N5 is a good phone and probably the only Android phone I'd bother with.

Could do with a hardware upgrade now just to keep the headline figures up against the competition but it won't struggle with much anyway.

Yep, had one for probably nearly a year, it's brill.

Only minor downside, as others have said, is battery life.

Theres a new Nexus 5 due out imminently? 😀 ... or is that imminently in the US, UK to follow? 😐

Recently I've changed phones annually, I just can't conscience it with my Nexus 5, it's just so good, mightily tempted by the Nexus 6 though. As everyone has said battery life is the major draw back of the N5, hopefully Lollipop will do something to address that.

Moto X was on sale for £360 but I think that's over now .

HTC One M8 was on sale for an unbelievable £299 on Voda PAYG but not on the web (anymore?) maybe instore?

No, the nexus 6 is out Real Soon Now, but it's a different device - 6" screen. Might be too many inches for your hands to handle? 😉

Reports/benchmarks show a 25% increase in battery on a N5 with Lollipop.

I'd wait for the Nexus6, due out in a week or two.
Some great deals on the Nexus5 though.
2yr contract, no deposit & £12 -£15 a month, including mins & data...cheaper than buying outright with a GifGaf SIM.

I'll never buy a HTC again. Utter pants.
14 months old & no more Android updates...tossers.

Three mates have the N5 & they are great phones.

Hmmm don't think so, they sold out in the states in seconds yesterday, not even up on the the UK play store yet. I'd be surprised if they were out in the UK before the end of the year.

Another possible is the One Plus you have to get an invite or I think they may have another open sale again in a couple of weeks. Great specs, bonkers price.

Nexus 6 is going to be around the £400 mark. So it's going to be quite pricey for a nexus handset.

POSTED 1 HOUR AGO # REPORT-POST

Unless you're going to manually install it, it'll be at some point from Monday as Google generally release the OTA updates in waves which can take anything up to a couple of weeks for everyone to get them.

It's really not difficult to put a custom ROM on and have 4.4.4 y'know. What version are you currently running?

The Nexus6 will be too big for me- the 5 will be spot on though. How do you carry your giant phones around? Manbags?

I hope so but in the US the price is $699 for the 64GB, $699 = £434 + 20% (VAT) = £500+

Got a 2nd gen Moto G (5" screen) for £150 when I needed a new phone urgently last weekend. Comes with Kit Kat and will upgrade to lollipop in the not too distant. Expandable memory and dual SIM, which works great for me - got work SIM in there as well so all my data goes on that and means my personal SIM can be a cheapo giff gaff. Might not be quite up there in terms of specs as the N5, but I wouldn't notice. Camera seems fine (better than my broken HTC One anyways). Sorry, what was the question?

An awesome phone for the money. As others have said the battery could be better. The screen is also prone to breaking when combined with butter fingers 🙄 and is quite expensive to repair. However Google have admitted this recently and will replace broken phones once and only if bought from google (I didn't 🙁 ).
I travel quite a bit so bought a cheap battery pack charger off ebay for £15 and get around 4 charges from it.

I've posted several times on here recommending the N5. Owned mine over a year having switched from 4 years of iOS.

Can't stand Android out of the box. IMO it still looks and feels sh1t. But after slapping on a third party launcher and custom icon pack it's easy to see how much one can tweak the look and feel. No need to root - but that's always an option if you want to go real deep. Not for me though.

Native Chrome browser is excellent. I constantly have 90+ tabs and loads of other apps open and the browser/device still runs as quickly and and fluidly as day one.

Camera is sh1t though. Very hit and miss. Some shots look really good yet others look the complete opposite. Video can be decent.

Can't see myself upgrading to an N6 as I don't see the point in having a bigger screen - just makes it harder to use one handed.

I've had my Nexus 5 for about a year and it's been a great phone so far. Lollipop is reported as having battery drain issues with the Nexus 5, to the point where battery life is about 4 hours, unless you turn wifi off. I won't be installing it just yet.

Really? Source???
I read it was supposed to improve battery life by circa 30%...

I won't be installing it just yet.

I wasn't planning on upgrading to Lollipop immediately anyway - I'll let other users continue Googles beta-testing...

Had mine for about 3 months.
To borrow phrase from another phone retailer. It just works.
The plane out the box android is clean and easy to use, not really had any issues yet. As I have 4g most places and fibre at home streaming is replacing extra storage.

The only way to install it right now would be to build a version yourself from the AOSP or download the dev version.

Lollipop was supposed to be released on Monday, but as yet no images for the nexus devices have been added except the nexus 9 and the nexus player. There has been some reported bugs with Lollipop on nexus 9, one of which is the battery drain bug, so (again rumoured) they have held off on releasing the images. The roll out is now set to begin on 12th Nov.

Love my Nexus 4 bought when they were first released but hope they don't stop selling the Nexus 5 for when i do eventually want to upgrade...mixed opinions on web as to whether google will stop the Nexus 5.

I constantly have 90+ tabs and loads of other apps open and the browser/device still runs as quickly and and fluidly as day one.

Me too...like the way the tab number just goes to a ':-)' when 100+ tabs. I do it to remember things...find something interesting or i want to buy on the web, leave the tab open so i don't forget

I have the N4, but as said the battery life is dire now - won't last 10 hours even with no use. Used to be acceptable.

Then got the Mk1 Moto G 4g and bunged in a 32gb card. Not far off of a Nexus in terms of Android purity, and battery lasts ages.

the OnePlus doesn't work on Vodafone (and i think O2) 4G networks in the UK. They're bringing out another model at some time that will
It would work on EE / three 4G as they are a different bandwidth

I nearly bought one but thankfully did my reasearch first.

They opened up preorders to anyone (no need for an invite) on 27th Oct, but that has closed now, so you'll need to sign up to their newsletter and you'll get notified of the next round of preorders or how to get invites.

Ok about to pull the trigger on a Nexus5. (handset only/convert my out of contract 3 to a sim only deal).

Is it still a very good phone/able to mix it with the latest gen and how quick (safe to?) can I update it to lollipop?

Yes, yes and yes.

To be honest, my N4 is still going strong, the N5 is just a nicer phone. I've got both. Kicks the arse out of the S5 mini
