Good actors in it too. Even the lad that plays Will seems pretty decent for a youngster.

It's got some shocking reviews.

Its also got Parker Posey, so I'm in.

I’m enjoying it - I’m told fans of the original series hate it, but then they must be in their 60s by now so not exactly target audience.

I'm liking it.... It's close enough yet far enough from the original for it to work.

the original was rubbish [ and i like sc -fi] seemed ok for the first episode but nothing that made me keen to watch the next one

Can  no one  come up with original ideas anymore?

Generally, I agreed with this sentiment. However, there are some series that had a pretty good premise but were done really badly. Lost in Space was one of those. As a result, some series are probably worth re-booting, whereas others are not.

I didn't realise they were doing LiS until last week so I'll probably check out the first episode.

Looked a bit like endless jeopardy from the trailer.  That gets a bit wearing after a while.  Of course it was only a trailer so I'll watch it anyway.

Just started watching and I think I've worked out why they crashed: the computer is quoting their altitude in feet but the read out on the screen is in metres

No. There are only seven different stories ever, so everything's a remake of either Shakespeare or Dickens.

Yep so far they've done nothing but lurch from one jeopardy to the next. It's now raining even though it's -60 degrees centigrade, this might be the stupidest thing I've ever watched.

Episode 1 was definitely endless jeopardy.

Someone I respect on Twitter has watched the lot and thought it pretty good but said the first few episodes are 'a bit of a plod'

I was looking forward to checking this out and stuck it on last night. Couldn't get through the first episode for thinking that there are far better shows on there I could be watching instead. Don't think I'll bother returning to it.

I think I prefer the original series for all it was typical 60s cheese.

So no one going to mention the politically correct make over?  Not the the original was a bit too far the other way.  But the matriarchal family, beta husband, inexplicable black middle daughter and female doctor Smith?

What next a woman Doctor Who?

You mean the Disney Family? No not really it’s what TV is now.

Loving all the "omfg the ex-special forces soldier who has experience of leading teams and this sort of thing, is shockingly right" moments on the part of the always right, sneering wife. Like, omg a man is actually useful around the house when in a survival situation.

Also, the racists cast the black daughter as the trouble maker, at least in the first episode. I wonder if they'll kill her off first?

TBH I’m just now always amazed how good the special effects are these days.

Looks promising thou and ex special forces daddy makes a lot of sense. Also interesting take on family by them not being a happy family.

I like the female Dr Smith, in so many wrong ways.

Dr Smith is great. Few of the plot lines are a bit cliche-y but on the whole it's quite good.

Second series is set up to be pretty good (assuming there is one)

Its also got Parker Posey, so I’m in.

Why? She looks like an even more ghetto Lena Hedy from Dredd.

Nah, she looks good to me. Different strokes/boring if we all liked the same thing/ you say Brexit, I say tomato etc.

Never heard of her, but a quick Google would suggest that I'd concur with your sentiment.

She looks like an even more ghetto Lena Hedy from Dredd.

I'd no idea that Tonks was in Dredd, but nonetheless that's no bad thing.  I'll take a ghetto Lena Headey lightly oiled and sent to my chambers any day of the week.

there are some series that had a pretty good premise but were done really badly.

Which is a point - why has there never been a Blake's 7 reboot?

However, there are some series that had a pretty good premise but were done really badly. Lost in Space was one of those

The original suffered from a common problem of studio execs wanting to inject more fun (comedy) and make sci fi light hearted. It started off well, but just got silly in later episodes especially when it went colour. Similar happened to Space 1999. Serious-ish and moody in the first series and just went silly in the second.

Blake's 7 even. The premise was a dark dystopian sci-fi and managed that for a few episodes then silly stuff kicked in and monster of the week stuff, with the occasional return to the political stories. And yeah, that one needs a proper reboot but they've been struggling to get it off the ground. I'm not normally one for reboots but it's maybe about time and could be done so well, but could also be done very badly in the wrong hands (we nearly had a god awful US remake).

All I can remember of the original was it kind of scared me but it was on repeat and I was fairly young.  Enjoying this one at the moment, first rule of sci fi sometimes is not to over think it 😉

I can't imagine there's much commercial appeal for it. I can't see there being a big call for it in the States and most UK broadcasters can't really afford to do a proper job.

Couldn't get through the first episode. Cliched plot, not very good special effects, and annoyingly bad science. I mean, a solid vein of magnesium, WTF is with that? I'll see if it appeals to a seven-year old.

Well it's either cliched or jumping the shark these days...

Whats wrong with the special effects?

If based on the first episode, I didn't find it cliched or the effects bad. If the fault was the quality of acting I might agree, but veins of magnesium? I would keep that to yourself. If a sense of disappointment of sci-fi is what you are after, try watching The Last Jedi for the first time. The biggest piece of piss I have seen for a while.

And I write that with a heavy heart.

mike, if you didn't know that inverted dives between an F14 and a MIG 29 were not possible well then the jokes on you pal.

In honesty I quite like what they have done with Lost In Space. Female Dr Smith works well. Undecided about the robot though.

Whats wrong with the special effects?

The toy spaceship wasn't very special. Also, the way all the storage containers started sliding around and bursting open during the rentry was silly - even a flight attendant on the crappiest budget airline can manage to stow the drinks cart better than that.

Parker posey has to be the weaker link. Im quite enjoying it so far.

Anyway, more stunning Squamish area scenery to add to that from Altered Carbon.

Really? That sort of stuff winds you up? It's entertainment, not a documentary...

Watched the whole series, entertaining stuff. Liking the women as real people rather than attractive air heads thing. Pretty good effort a La battlestar reboot

There is context to that as the story unfolds with flashbacks really but if you have lost the ability to suspend belief by that point your probably out.

They're probably reusing props from Stingray.
