do you need VW dealer mechanic? if you're not so fussed, I used to take my v old VW Golf GTI down to Dan Tomson at Tomson Motors, Giles Street - down by the Vaults, Leith - off Gt Junction Street. a true character and happy to fix almost anything. but VWs seem to feature heavily in the cars outside..

Address:
81 Giles Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH6 6BZ

Contact us: 01315 541233

edit - and judging by current reviews, still seem to be as they were when I last used them - approachable, helpful, know their stuff. recommended.

as a car -- to be honest, the GTI was the only VW I've owned. In terms of driving experience, it was 'OK' - but it was a B reg Mk II GTI, so nothing fancy - no PAS, no halo headlights.

But it was fantastically reliable - I bought it in ... 1990? from a mate at 50k miles, he wasn't sure how much more it'd last, it'd had 2 previous owners. It chugged along with minimal repairs, except to corroded brake pipes and door leaks, until I reluctantly sold it to a colleague at around 105k miles, I think it ran to 120k eventually despite going on fire and stuff.

kcal - Not bad...120 miles is too good...I usually drive in town or max upto Ireland...and now might be driving upto North Scotland...Its 56k miles driven, normally don't give issue but only that beeping sounds..already spent 200 for full servicing was never done since 2006 ...

kcal- I went to Tomson motors and really guy is good. He checked the oil pressure and is absolutely fine. Now he wants to hear the sound when you start your car first time in morning, so I am going to keep my car there and will start infront of him in morning..

Thanks for the reference

Hmmm, seem to remember this is a common issue on Polos. Check out one of the VW forums, I think it may be faulty dashboard wiring or a dodgy alternator connection.
