[#11330651]

There's an event on in London tomorrow night lighting up a lot of the South Bank event spaces (National Theatre, Tate Modern etc) in red in protest about the way the Events Industry has been ignored through CV19. I'd like to go as its 'my' industry and I've just been made redundant (aka freelance) and it would be handy to be seen/show solidarity. A decent sized bunch of workmates/colleagues/contacts are going, so it would be handy for a (socially distanced) catchup

I'm planning to drive down from the north, ditch the car somewhere round the M1/N. Circular junction then pedal the rest of the way.

Any good suggestions for free (or near as dammit) parking? I was initially thinking Brent Cross, but that shuts at 21.00. I'd be looking for 17.00-22.30 ish. Don't want to break #rule1, but can't justify normal London parking rates at the mo.

Thanks!

I'd try Muswell Hill. I used to live there, and all the parking on the residential side streets was free ( this was 3 years ago though) somewhere like this: https://goo.gl/maps/g9ykQ5Pp8vyhBYu56

Google Street view is your friend here, pick an area and go along the roads looking for the signs with parking restrictions to identify where you can leave your car.

I did this when looking for somewhere to park up and tube into London to watch the Marathon last year and identified several places.

If you're pedalling and heading in at that time, you'll have loads of parking options. Most places aren't restricted then. Just find a quiet side street (e.g. look around Gladstone Park) and leave the car there. If you pick one junction further up the M1, around Hendon, then there's even more parking options (literally most side streets) but you'll have a slightly longer ride

+1 lots of places round Highgate which are residents only parking for a couple of hours only in the middle of the day 👍

Edit- plenty just off the A41 Finchley Rd too, Kidderpore Av for example, residents only between 12.30 & 2.30pm

Yes, you'd be able to go a lot further in than Brent Cross if you want.

eg. the street I used to live on, the residents parking stops at 5:30 (near Holloway Road Tube)

Bit further in still (Angel), another road my car lived in, goes to 6:30

We tend to use Finchley Central tube parking - at weekends it's only £5 all day - not sure what the evening rate is

You could even go M1, A41 all the way into swiss cottage or even regents park. Pay&Display at regents park outer circle for an hour and ride in from there.

Alternatively, if you come to Hornsey I can give you a visitors parking permit for an hour/two and you can ride in from there.

Thanks for the replies.

Having had a scout around on street view, it looks like theres places in Golders Green that have 11.00-Midday residents bays, which would be perfect. Don't want to drive in much further than that as it'll be slower than travelling by bike!

(and @damitamit - very kind offer, but a bit further round than I'd ideally like to go!)
