[#11513922]

Hi my user name Big-Bud stems from my bike I owned when I joined this site ten plus years ago and I owned a focus Big-Bud .nothing wrong there .
It was later pointed out to me that whist inisant on my part this may be misinterpreted as a liking to a morrocan woodbine.
which when pointed out to me by friends and knowing what I do for a job I changed it to incorporate my surname so my user name was changed a while ago to knott4me.
However when I post in the forum my user name Big-Bud is still displayed to me and I simply thought it must not of updated ,
however I recently noticed when I reply in the comments ie replying to the continental tyre package I won in the Christmas bundle (yippee) my user name knott4me is displayed.
Can someone confirm for me please what user name they see on this post .
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long winded summary .
Enjoy your wkd

I believe the user name can't be revised. I had one which also was my companies name. I emailed and asked for it to be changed but in the end it was easier to just set up a new profile.

I see big-bud, but wouldn't have automatically assumed it had anything to do with weed. And I'm not a prude when it comes time that sort of thing, well back in the day any way...

Big bud, just assumed you were larger than life, but now you mention iti can see other meaning.

Mine is as I'm a fan of greyhounds, whippets etc, but not racing. Had a number of rescues, but doggie-less for while now since our last girl passed.

I managed to change my profile name during the last forum update playing around and now of course am unable to change it back. So now when I post on an article from the main ST page my comment is attributed to my profile name, but when I post in the forum it's my forum name (which I no longer like that much).

Gripping stuff, I know.

Not being a weed smoker Big Bud meant nothing to me.
Anyone who thinks it's a weed name must partake.

I think there’s an actual strain of Cannabis called ‘Big Bud’.  As I’m sure the degenerate weed-toking OP is well aware.

😉

There is a difference between account name and display name. Display name is what you see in your profile and a few other places, and is user-settable. Account name is the username you log in with, it's what the forum predominantly displays (for now at least) and is fixed.

We don't normally allow account name changes except in exceptional circumstances. It's not my call to make but I'd argue that "a drugs connotation I didn't realise" is as solid as any.

Email tech@ or click the Help link bottom right and fill in the form, they're the only ones who can make this change for you.

Thanks Cougar.

Display name is what you see in your profile and a few other places, and is user-settable.

User set-able once only though. I can't change my display name now I've set it.

Apologies for the slight thread hijack OP.

GanjaMan-420

my work password is <string of letters I wont reveal> 420.

As up until March when we all got sent home, we had to change our passwords monthly. So I used a memorable and unique phrase, and added the month and year to the end of it. So for 8 months now, the numerical part of my password has been 420.

Yes I could change it, but I'm going to leave it until someone points it out.

Cougar - is 'I created this username about 20 years ago and now find it painfully juvenile' an exceptional circumstance? 😉

Search me. Ask Tech.

User set-able once only though. I can’t change my display name now I’ve set it.

If that's true, it's probably a bug rather than intentional behaviour. I'll flag it up.
