WTF

It’ll be turning sideways on day 5!

The game will be lucky to get past Day Two at this rate.

England bowl a yard too short shocker (or in Overtons case 6 yards, though to be fair it was under orders)

Who would have thought at lunch that we might be asked to follow on before tea?

And game over just after...

I'm going to try looking at this positively. If JB can somehow hog the strike and hang in there whilst playing a few shots then we might at least pass the 100 mark unscathed. We may still be all out soon after, or it might be the start of a rebuild.

You lot turned it off?
Lead now under 100, with JB century and the big lad on debut looking for a century too (already has record score for debutant)

What kind of test cricket is this? Rollercoaster doesn’t come close! What a 7th wicket partnership - where did that come from?

Interesting test this is. There’s a real chance it’ll be almost level at exactly half way through the match.
That’d set up things beautifully.

Overtons knock seems to have "annoyed" Broad "Oi! I'm the bowler who can bat in this side" 😉

Leach on fire! He's scoring about a million time faster than his ashes knock with Stokes.

Listening to Mo Ali talk about Brendan McCullum telling batters to go out and express themselves, I wonder if he's re-considering/regretting his test retirement?

WTAF?

This is a test match! What's Boycott got to say about it?

I’m sure he said in the last test he’d be open to a call. Given that at some point Stokes will get injured he may even end up as skipper at some point.

Unrelated, Zak Crawley really needs to go back to county cricket for a while, I’m just not sure he’s the man for the job.
Ollie Pope however look much happier.

It says it all about "new" England, that when set 299 to win, I just assume they will get there easily. A year ago if set 99 to win I'd have thought it unlikely.

It's the same players, but they are so different. God knows what Chris Silverwood is thinking.

They’ve been way behind in each match! It’s great to watch but it’s going to be hit and miss if this is the way forward!

there was a stat on yesterday I think; under Baz McCullum they are attacking something like 35% of balls faced. Under all the other coaches it was low 20's.

It's high stakes, high reward and is brilliant to watch, and I hope brings people into the grounds as a result. But when it goes wrong, as it surely must then the commentators and columnists have to be fair about it too.

I think the same mindset applies to the bowling side of things too. Leach certainly attests to this, eg "You realise teams I have played in, the way I have thought, a lot of decisions are made around negativity. A lot of four or five-day games you give up on the win quite early but [under Stokes and McCullum] it feels like you are always pushing for that win, so there is never really too bad a situation."

It got very tiring watching Eng play safe/negatively, especially in the last 18 months of Root's reign.

The new England Test philosophy has to be a lot smarter than just flashing at everything, no matter the conditions. Attacking cricket shouldn't be brainless cricket.

Yesterday I top scored with 31 n/o off 74 balls, to set a total of 162. Everyone who tried to attack got out, we bowled the opposition out for 103. The wicket and conditions dictated the style of play.

England can't expect the lower order to keep bailing them out of their new 'slogathon' approach.

The ginger Viv at it again!

England likely to face quite a deficit, despite Bairstow. What was Stokes doing earlier?! Bit of ego creeping in? He could have played a bit more circumspectly before opening up.
