What albums do you listen to that haven't dated? i.e. if it was released tomorrow it would still be the hit it was when it was first released?
I'm currently listening to Def Cut - Street Level 2002 and it could be released now and sound great! There are other older albums I think still sound great - Stereo MC's for one....
Give me a list worth downloading....
Cheers
Is this a serious question?
The Police, still sound fresh and original to my ears.
Well, I am still listening to some stuff from the 60's.
AC/DC - Back in black
wagner
crap at the start and still crap now
but you got to love him
Cream
Still sounds far ahead of it's time even now
The Doors, The Doors
The Scream, Siouxsie and the Banshees
Forces of Victory, LKJ
Entroducing, DJ Shadow
Listened to all of these this weekend and they all sounded great.
Cream
Still sounds far ahead of it's time even now
Anything by Vivaldi...
Anything by WAGNER...(XFACTOR ONE BTW)
Yes. Serious.
The Doors, Cream, AC/DC - good ones.
I also think Janes Addiction are pretty timeless. Along with The Stranglers.
..... and The Velvet Underground....
all mod cons
Nirvana - Nevermind
Damned double post
If I'm limited to one, it would have to Peter Frampton Comes Alive ๐ I'd buy it now. Still sounds good IMO
D.
Talking Heads...77 / Speaking in Tongues / Fear of Music / Remain in the Light / Stop Making Sense...
They all still sound fresh. Still amazes me how '77 (from 1977) was coming out at the same time as a lot of the disco tripe and punk ..but so different for the period.
Van Morrison.
Thinking Leftfield Leftism and some Utah Saints stuff. Also some less well known trancy stuff from the mid to late 90s like Union Jack ( http://www.discogs.com/UnionJack-There-Will-Be-No-Armageddon/release/42861 ).
Cockney Rebel
Blackbeard I Wah Dub
Talking Heads Remain in Light
The The first album
Underworld Leftism
cool, two of my favourites got cross-posted. I feel vindicated ๐
Van Morrison.
Aye, but which album though?
Ah, good question!
'Astral Weeks'.
'It's Too Late To Stop Now' (live double).
George Michael - Careless Whisper
I said one!
Both good yes, but you can only have ONE. Which is it gonna be?
Midnight Vultures by Beck
'It's Too Late To Stop Now' ... probably!
And you?
...further thoughts...The Modern Lovers by The Modern Lovers...recorded 1972 (Released 1976)...still great...RoadRunner is the hit song
King Crimson 'In The Court Of The Crimson King'
Stick on your old Pixies albums and try and find a bad song - they still sound awesome.
Janes Addiction would be the antithesis of this for me zedsdead. Ripped all their old stuff to mp3 a while back and couldn't believe how weak it sounded. Used to love them but I guess my ears have changed - ymmv and all that.
AC/DC - Back in black because they haven't got any better in 30 years?
Rage Against The Machine - compare it to other rap/metal acts of the day
Metallica Black Album
Dj Shadow - Entroducing or The Private Press
Massive Attack - anything
At The Drive In - ahead of their time
Mazzy Star - So Tonight I Might See
Television
Talking Heads
Beck
Morphine
The Lemonheads
Runrig - Heartland
Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman
I reckon the drum machine on the "backing tape" at the start of Stop Making Sense has dated quite badly, but it's still a good album. And while the Pixies albums I have do have many good songs on them the production lets them down for me. Are You Experienced? by the Jimi Hendrix Experience hasn't dated very badly, which perhaps goes to show how much rock music still lives in Jimi Hendrix's shadow.
I thought about this question whilst listening to the cure - boys don't cry, last week
The Cure +1
Chris DeBurgh's early stuff.
Steely Dan
Wet Wet Wet
Nirvana
Primal Scream
Portishead - Dummy
Faithless - Reverence/Irreverence
Roni Size - New Forms
pulp - different class
As title suggests!! Can and do listen to it again again every year and probably 1 of a few albums that i like every song in ( and know most words to)
Mazzy star - good choice
Exodus - Bob marley. one of the all time greats and not dated at all. Not a duff tune on the album
Rainbow "Rising"
Still listen to it all the time, just the finest heavy rock album ever made, Blackmore and Dio at their best
Also still enjoy Big Country "The Crossing" some great tracks with that very distinctive sound
About to be heard again soon when they tour with Mike Peters on vocals, looking forward to it very much
Guns and Roses' "Appetite for Destruction"
and I'm amazed how fantastic Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds sound (saw it live a few years ago), it must have been early 80s (or even late 70s); Rick Wakeman on the other hand..

Nope. Can't think of anything.
