Personally rather have Alice & the others mentioned all day tbh. What AM did though from a global perspective was seminal & she created a new image & sound. Nobody (except maybe Jamiroquai) from the Ronnie Scott/ Jazz Cafe/Blue Note scene ever did what she did, that from a cultural perspective regardless of the music has to be admired.

Was at the 2004 Mercury Music Awards in 2004 with a UK rapper called Ty, AW was one of the nominations for the 'Frank' LP , she disappeared into the toilets holding hands (and other things) with a really hot looking female friend & didn't come out for about half an hour ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜€

You seem to be having trouble with the meaning of "seem to".

You seem to have trouble realising this thread is about Amy Whinehouse and not me.

Hey, look on the bright side, at least she made it into the 27 club!

Paved the way for other jazz-influenced singers, did she? I rather think this young lady might have had an opinion about that:

This was her third No1, she was 15 by the time it got to the top in 1961, she was 14 when her first single got to No1. She's considered a jazz-pop singer.
And this lady most certainly had jazz-soul influences:

Her album Dusty in Memphis is considered a soul classic.
She also pre-dates Amy by quite some margin.
FWIW, I don't rate AW that highly as a singer, she's very mannered in how she sings, and there are better contemporaries, such as Beth Jeans Houghton, Anna Calvi, and Paloma.
