[Closed] MTB Bars = Road Brakes?

More of a grumble than a rant, having a stressful week and this didn't help:

I recently ordered 7 bikey items from an online retailer, including a pair of nice road brakes and some cable outer.

When the parcel came I was surprised how long it was. That would be because there were some cheap bars included (which I hadn't ordered), no brakes, and the cable outer missing.

I phoned up to check what to do and was told they'd send me the outer, but that I had to send the bars back before they'd send me the brakes as it was a swap. Not sure how they work this out since I didn't actually order the bars. And the bars cost less than the brakes I ordered.

Now not sure what to do on my day off tomorrow on which I had planned to spend making my roadbike nice and shiny and worky...

Maybe they were just trying to tell me to ride MTB instead of Road? (The only reason the roadbike is getting shiny new bits is because I'm doing a 100mile charity audax and feel that having working brakes would be an advantage).

I don't mind people making mistakes, I just don't understand why I should be out of pocket and why they implied it was my fault. In future I'd be tempted just to point out the missing stuff.

I do try to use the LBS when possible but they don't stock the stuff I needed this time. The last few times I've been to try to buy stuff they haven't had those things in stock either. EG women's shoes in less than a size 41...

Tell them to send you the road brakes and the cable outer that you have paid for and a payment for the return postage on the mtb bars.

Yes, they have made a mistake but it is their responsibility to rectify it and not put you out of pocket.
