Moving a wasp byke…

Quite possibly my last ever post.

I am planning on moving a wasp byke that is currently under construction in my garage.

I have no plans to kill the wasps however I am working on the assumption that the feeling is not mutual. Current plan is to wait for a colder day, late evening , possibly a few glasses of brave stuff, then somehow manoeuvre the byke  into a small bucket, pop a lid on, casually walk into the garden, carefully place camera to capture proceedings, knock the lid off, then run like f&@k. How does this plan stack up?

Needs filmed from point of entering garage to get the actual Death Star...and probably live streamed as suspect whoever finds you won't be wanting to post the footage online anywhere!!!

IIRC the recommended catch/transport receptacle is your wife's best scatter cushion. Wear carpet slippers.

There isn't enough mention of fire or nuking from orbit in your plans....

Where abouts is it in said garage?

I had one in a small bush by the back door, I left it alone and weirdly they never bothered us. They just flew off over the fence and found somewhere else to go. Strange but true

So maybe just leave be and they'll not be a problem

Been there,done that.
Timing is everything.
The slice.
The drop.
The catch
The lid.
The exit to safety.
Most importantly --->> The ...don't trip as you leave the garage..

Do you have a small child to video it?  Could be a money spinner, this spider equivalent has had loads of views over the years

'be careful'

If they are homeless will they survive though?

Similar to post above, we had one in the soffit above the back door, didn’t notice them other than a steady stream in/out of a small hole they’d found.

Last time we had a starter wasp nest I took it out at some distance with the kids nerf gun.  Worked quite well, better than the broom and run technique

I too have learnt a new colloquialism today.

Cleared out some old rolled up carpet* from my garage last year, shoved it in the boot of the car, put a load of stuff on it, set off for the tip. It was only when I was halfway there I realised that the car was starting to fill with angry wasps. It was the closest to pulling over and fly-tipping** I've ever been.

I learned a lot about wasps over the past few years, and I would say keep them if possible, they're nature's bin men/cleaners/pest control. They don't return to old nests, so if you can ride out this year, you'll be grand

*Turns out wasps like to nest in old carpet
**Wasp-tipping?
