That wasn't me, that was someone else. 🙂
I was debating the rationale behind that, which was irrelevant to the original post, so after some constructive feedback from the floor I asked the mods to delete it.

As you say, the person who posted that view point was perfectly entitled to do so, and it was relevant to the OP.

So the move has been made, I’ve been down here September last year although we only managed  to move in  to a farmhouse on the Taw valley outside of Barnstaple this March ( the chain collapsed 3 times, twice at completion!) We’ve managed to get a summer Season done and it’s been a learning curve!

I’ve been out riding with the Southfork lot and The Bikeshed and I clearly need to find my climbing legs and dump a load of weight ( living in Cambs will do that to you)

Anyway you lot were right ( as is the way with the Oracle that is the Singletrackworld forum)

- some good road stuff out the door but little to be had on the mtb, forced me to buy a gravel bike courtesy of Soithfork chaps- cheers fellas.

Anyway have a search on google for Stairway to Devon

Have you tried Codden Hill and Snapper? <br />I used to ride out with some locals, I have no idea where we went but there always seemed to be loads of trails.

Snapper singletrack trails were destroyed when they clear felled the timber in that valley about 5 years ago - it's just fireroads now.

If you're in the Taw Valley, Corden Hill is on your right as you enter Bishops Tawton heading towards Barnstaple.

Be aware that the tunnel under the A361 at Riverton has been closed for many months Here meaning a 2 mile detour if you're picking loops off of strava.

Good info, cheers! If there’s ever any planned rides I’d be grateful if I could tag along - not at the moment as have the dreaded Vid. But in the future I’d defo be up for it.

Just to chip in, thanks for the update as it's nice to see threads from start to finish.  Hope your daughter is doing well at school - my background is one of moving schools only when the last one gets condemned so I can only imagine moving life/the whole family based around a school.

Nice part of the world. I've got an old friend who farms a few miles from where you've moved and we visit once or twice a year. It feels like a different work to where we live! The only problem is that it's only about 40 miles away from my house, as the crow flies across the channel, but it has sometimes taken over 5 hours to drive the 150ish miles. It really does feel like the back of beyond.

FYI I’m sure you know this but North Devon is along way from South Devon

Have lived in S Devon for over 20 years and travelled around the county to explore the riding during that time. North and East Devon and most of the South Hams are not great for variety and interesting MTB

Pretty much what I was going to say, and I don’t live near South Devon/South Hams. I have cycled around there, many years ago, in fact years before mountain bikes, staying in Beesands, and if you want lots of hills to give your cardio vascular system a bloody good workout, then fine, but the lanes are very narrow, ten foot hedges drop straight to five foot grass banks that drop straight down to tarmac, with sod-all room for vehicles to pass. When I went down there with a car, I used to turn off the Dartmouth-Kingsbridge road and wait a bit for another car or a bus or delivery truck to turn in and follow them, to force traffic from the other direction to give way; reversing back up a 1:6/1:4 hill with a blind corner behind isn’t a lot of fun. 🫤
