Looking for something as near to 'normal' jeans as possible while still retaining a decent amount of protection.

I've had a look at Draggin and Furygan but any recommendations on others to look at (and avoid) appreciated.

Cheers

Kevlar lined HoodJeans here. British made, pockets for hip and knee pads. Pretty comfortable, but the Kevlar does make them warm!

Just taken delivery of some Hood jeans. Not worn then in anger yet, but they seem very well made with full kevlar coverage til below the knee.

Hood. British-made, quality is great, you pick your waist size then they sew the legs to the right length so fit should be spot on too. More expensive than they were, but everything's gone up including other brands like draggin.

If you've got a bit more to spend, their new sister company Kyrano has some that look great - d3o armour too.

+1 for Hood.

Unlike Draggin' (at the time of purchase) Hood jeans are fully lined to below the knee. Very happy with mine.

Thanks for all the info.

The Hood's look quite 'skinny', whereas the Kyrano look more like a relaxed 501 type fit - is it just the model in the pics?

I was told on another forum (after ordering) that Hoods are a Levi 501 type of fit. Mu heart sank as I never got on with 501s. However, having ordered my normal jean size, the fitting is spot on.

Can't recommend any jeans , but just back from seeing this and if you get the whole IOM TT thing ,you will love it.
Fantastic stuff and reminded me where my first two wheeled passion really started. 🙂

There are even a fair few shots of Guy Martin riding his Orange 😉

no offence but i cant see any armoured or even abrasive proof kevlar trews on there col ....

having seen the state of my dads textile kit after a spill at 50 onto a clear road 3 weeks ago(- tank slapper after the rear wheel locked up coming down the gears rather vigourously and clicking 2 by mistake - no road rash but a busted collar bone , ribs , wrist) - and my mates spill at the same speed on a similar road wearing jeans .... ditched it on gravel with the front end road rashed to **** - didnt look comfy at all !

wouldnt be on a bike without propper kit ! - its abit like operating a chainsaw without correct PPE - fine 99 times out of 100 but it only takes one mistake to **** you up.

Another brand to look at are Hardas. Mine are a few years old now, but bought them at a show having tried other brands on in direct comparison, and these just seemed best fit and well put together. The flixi armour is comfortable and stays in place better than others. Definately worth trying on before you buy if poss.

I can't remember the brand of jeans I have, possibly Red Route. But the pockets for the knee armour fasten at the bottom with velcro patches. Easy to get the armour in, but it tends to fall out after 20 mins or so of standing up or walking about. Also, knee armour provided but not hip armour. you might want to be aware of these things

Apart from that, they're comfy and not as sweaty as leather

Shorts are good in the summer. They slow me down by 70mph so make me far safer. 🙂

Another one for Hood here. I have the cargo trousers and several friends have the jeans and have crashed in them and been fine.

Halvarrson / Lindstrands / Joffama

4 of us bought a few pairs each for riding France/Spain /Pyrennese last year - wee tumble in the Picos de Europa where i started sliding backwards down an effin steep hill on a gravely bend showed that the jeans are very well made.
Mrs Gixers leg got stuck under the bike and pannier as it slid, so she took more of a bump than me. She had a sore elbow for about 15 minutes.
Sat about for about 1/2 an hour then rode back down the mountain to try and repair the pillion footpeg.
Jeans damage - none.
We wear them all the time if the weather is reasonable, hip and knee armour fitted, kevlar to ass, knees and hips.
Much more comfortable off the bike than leathers.

We tried loads of different armoured jeans and these seemed the best made, one pair at J&S - think they were Joe Rocket or Arlen Ness burst at the seams as i gave them a "pull test" in the shop!!

Thanks for all the info/recommendations - liking the look (and price) of the Hoods so far, so I'll see who stocks them round my way. Cheers

UPDATE

After lots of umming and ahhing I eventually went for a pair from Bikers gear Australia (from Ebay UK).

Kevlar in all the right places, removable knee and hip armour/padding and they fit and look like normal jeans. Just under £66 delivered in 2 days 😀
