I'll keep it short and sweet.

Can anyone recommend a good mortgage broker?

Where are you based,

I rang a few online brokers 6-7 years ago and their advise was absolutely terrible,
Then went to see a local guy and he was amazed..

Make sure they listen and ask difficult questions.

The two online brokers both recommended me to fix mortgages on short fixes and 5% rates, even though I said we'd easily have enough funds to pay down double what the capital repayment would be each month.

Local guy couldn't help us, as he said go direct to HSBC and get a base rate tracker , it pained him to tell us that, but he had listened and that was the best advice he could offer..
My ltv is now significantly lower than if we'd overpaid the insurance premium that a fixed rate offers

We used London & Country for our last two re-mortgages.
They were quite sales-y (ie they try to sell you life insurance and stuff) but if you can ignore that, the deals they got us were quite a bit better than anything I could find on my own.

Can't personally recommend them, but have lots of tools and information available.
