A friend of mine uses a Vaude Tecoleo messenger bag. He uses it for working away, stuffs his footy kit in it when we play 5-a-side and uses it for photography/laptop duties too.

Carrying all your crap like phones, camera, wallet etc does require a bag when it's too warm to wear a coat.

I got one of these last year,

Does Muchuan actually exist outside of Amazon? The listing implies other sizes and colours, but that one bag on Amazon is the only one I can find anywhere.

i use a Billingham. (Hadley large without the camera insert) use it for shopping, laptop, general stuff like iPad/headphones/keys/books.
i dont have self conscious man-bag issues or anxiety over it being mistaken for a handbag. its just a nice looking waterproof canvas bag thats very hardwearing and ages well.

Got a black Knomo that fits an ipad mini. And a Coach in brown. Mrs TiRed won't carry a handbag on holiday, so normally it's me and a rucksack.

Should be worn low. With a decent width strap to say man bag 😉

Ah, seems to be a generic bag with a lot of rebrands.

When I got it it was one of those Amazon offers you had to be careful which option you chose as there were 20 or so different bags on one advert - all fitting "Unisex Military Style Messenger Bag"

The Muchuan one was cheapest and on Prime so delivery was quick. I'd guess there are multiple far east sweatshops churning them out with different lables on.

It's been pretty hardwearing though, mine gets slung about and everything's has held together.

That's handy to know, as there's quite a few complaints on some of them regarding quality; hard to tell sometimes whether there is actually an issue or whether someone's expecting a £20 bag to be the same as a £150 bag.

I had one of these a few years ago when the kids were young, they hold a lot of stuff, with plenty of pockets etc. It was a better alternative to rocking the red and white polka dot nappy bag the Mrs had.

And we've ventured into messenger bag territory. What I wanted was a small not-bumbag for keys, wallet & phone ideally.

Some of these bags look like the fishing bags my granddad used to have decades ago. Get yourself a backpack if you need to carry more than you can fit in your pockets.

How about a camera bag? You don't necessarily need to carry a camera in it.

This bag from Case Logic is just the best bag I've ever had. I do carry an SLR around in it mostly, but also use it as a carrying stuff bag.

Very comfortable, single strap but has a stored waist strap for cycling etc. Used it 3 weeks cycle touring in Peru and was brilliant. Carry a bottle in the side pocket, jacket on the outer straps.
Brilliant.

It's not, if you're going fishing that is. Walking about town with a fishing bag to keep your phone. purse and baby wipes in? Bizarre!

I used to carry my large Timbuktu bag everywhere, but frankly it's totally unnecessary for most of what I need a bag for, so I got one of these off eBay:

[img] [/img]
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Small-Canvas-Webbing-Haversack-fishing-satchel-Daysack-military-messenger/141472715713?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D37256%26meid%3D2d56049e6cb7485fbe5d83c02eb00cca%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D131329502542

Straight copy of the original army gasmask bag, or whatever else needed to be carried, my dad had a battered old one, probably his original army issue bag that he carried his flask and sarnies to work in. Costs about £7-8, I carry a travel flask, camera, binoculars and a lightweight jacket in mine when I'm out walking, and very little if I'm in town, maybe small items of shopping.
They get better with age.

No. If end up looking like some kind of urban commando wearing that ^^

I liked Countzero's bag but Mrs K says no. And has no better ideas so has reverted to pockets. :/

I like my Timbuk2 messenger bag XS. Its a nice size for wallet, camera, bottle of water etc.
Mine is reflective pink, so a very stylish man bag. 8) There are more subtle colours if you prefer.

I used to work with a guy who had one of those armpit holster things; he kept a Psion 5 in it.

All joking aside, that thing that Kayak pictures is better in use than it first appears. I have a friend who uses something very similar filled with various gadgets and pass cards strapped to the...uh..strap.

He makes it look very cool; kind of futuristic/Manga type affair. It's a work thing for him but very practical if you need instant access to stuff throughout the day and don't want your troos slipping past your knees every other step.

I love a good man bag.

Go all out and get a large bum bag with a shoulder strap.

Or something handmade from that craft website Ette Etihad or whatever it is called.

I like a nice bit of hand dyed felt, with hand stitched leather

I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of a small canvas man bag, £13 from Amazon. Just big enough to keep assorted gubbins in, for holiday pottering.

It has a small zipped area with pockets + slots for organising pens and small items - I'm already looking forward to deciding which items will live in each pocket 😀

Manbags don't really work. I take a bag if I have enough stuff to justify it, or i'm doing something with the kids where a bag is useful

Otherwise men get pockets, women get bags (and sometimes pockets too grrrrr)

Remember when phones became heavily gender-stereotyped ('For your daughter? Ah, that would be the pink clamshell sparklephone')

Then things evolved and we realised that a phone is a piece of tech to do shit and no big 'gender' hand-wringing required.

I feel that way about bags - ie at this point in time it seems they're something that *could* be a functional no-brainer - yet somehow has to provide extra space for a whole load of 'identity' and status, er, baggage.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I recall a time when people who wanted a bag would go out and buy a bag rather than wading through 78 posts to determine whether or not said bag would suit...

Otherwise men get pockets

And that was sufficient, before they were walking round with phones with 6" screens.

I've not got my tablet with me today (it's the 2012 Nexus 7, I retired it when it got killed by the Android Update Of Doom; I've now fixed it but not got back into the habit of carrying it again). But I've got two phones (personal and work), medicine cos I is poorlysick, notepad, USB pendrives, SAK, torch, keys, work passes, darts (not as weird at is sounds, we have a board at work), hairbrush (in case I have to be vaguely presentable suddenly), charging cables and other odds and sods. If I had that lot in my pockets I'd be walking round like ED-209.

And sure, a lot of that isn't necessary; the thing with storage is you tend to carry more and more crap just because you can. But most of it is useful to have.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I recall a time when people who wanted a [s]bag[/s] bike would go out and buy a [s]bag[/s] bike rather than wading through 78 posts to determine whether or not said [s]bag[/s] bike would suit...

How is "bag" any different from asking recommendations for any other purchase? A new fridge, a smart pair of shoes, a mobile phone, a computer, a TV, a set of Allen keys...?

It's not.

I do read some of the things on here and wonder how people manage to decide which underpants to wear when they get up. Although it's safe to say that the majority of recommendations will be a lot more expensive than they actually need to be, but it is Lotsofdisposableincometrackworld after all.

I think it's boredom rather than a complete lack of decisiveness.

Mostly

I've had a simple fishing type satchel since I was a kid (like the ones Count Zero posted up). It's coming ot the end of it's days, sadly, so I'll need to replace it. 'Manbags' are useless because they're too small, messenger bags are too big. A satchel is perfect.

I do like that camera sling/holster thing Kayak posted up though....
