Hi - sorry if this has been done already! but...

A group of about 5 of us are looking to head out to Mallorca for a weeks cycling on the tarmac at the end of summer.
We're looking to go at the end of September/early October and wondered if anyone could recommend a good base with easy access to the riding?

Also, do people prefer to hire bikes or take their own? i'd like to have my own bike but also like the idea of not having the hassle of transporting it.

Any help much appreciated.
Cheers,
Andy

We stayed in Puerto Pollensa which was ideal as a base. Hired bikes out there.

Do Sa Calobra it is awesome!

Yep, Pollenca is the place, Alcudia is also a decent base.

What he ^^ said,at Puerto Pollensa you are right beside the start of the hills.Go out to the lighthouse at Cap Formentor for a warm up,and yes, everyone must do Sa Calobra.

Just come back from a few days in Puerto Pollensa, it's ideal as a base. Stayed in Hotel/Apartments Daina which I think all the group were happy with.

Thanks, got a couple of not-so-keen cyclists in the group too so i'm thinking Alcudia over Puerto Pollensa as there is more to offer (and more nightlife?)

Cheers.

I'm in pollensa right now, just getting ready to do SA colobra today.

It's sunny with a touch of wind, yesterday's rain and free bar means I won't be setting any records today.

Never stayed in Alcudia; only ever ridden through it. But it looks a bit of a shit hole.
Puerto Pollenca has enough bars & restaurants to keep most happy ... prettier place too.

Hiring is a lot easier; less hassle getting to & from airport etc. Having your own bike is great though.

My wife and i went last october, hired from pro cycle hire. Stayed at the port blue adults only and they let you store the bikes in your room. Good time and sa colobra was awesome.

Stayed in Puerto Pollensa about a dozen times, last week stayed just outside Palma. The road conditions are superb this side of the island and I personally think the routes are better this side. Bunyola, Orient Puig, Soller, Sa Colabra, Santa Maria, Petra are all easy to get to. As is Andaxt and all round there. Will be going back to Palma again defo. excuse the sp.
