[#13536856]

I emailed an aparthotel type place we're going to be staying at in France, and I got a reply from something called Mailinblack, which says it is a French 'cybersecurity solution'. Apparently I need to confirm I'm humam by following a link in the email.

Is this legit? Because it seems really weird.

IIRC its a real service in France - its a bit like the call filtering you can have where people need to engage with the system before you get connected so that autodialers etc don't get through

So its intended for publicly available mail address (like an accommodation provider) and basically requires senders to do a bit of a dance to prove they're a genuine customer for a message to get through so mailboxes aren't clogged with spam

Whether the email genuinely is from Mailinblack... you'd need to do your own due diligence as to where the mail is coming from or where links are sending you

Hmm, like reCAPTCHA for email? Thanks. Still seems like a weird thing to put in front of customers, although maybe the French are used to it.

If it tells you to start using copy/paste commands, it's malware.

So I've been in touch with the hotel on another channel and they confirm it's legit. I feel that company could do a bit more to make it look less like phishing though.
