We loved our 5 years in Kirkcudbright. Great beaches, empty hills and forests. Closer to family doon south. Very much hidden gem.

That said, it also falls into the low income/lack of resources place at times. Dumfries town centre is everything wrong with modern shopping - and half of it was closed and boarded up when I was there before Christmas.

That said, I would happily move back to Castle Douglas / Kirkcudbright area.

The stars are amazeballs.

I almost hate to mention it but there are some lovely spots in the area to the south of Loch Ness. Farr, Errogie, Gorthleck etc. Beautiful area that is very much bypassed.

Agreed. Stunning around there. I was riding around those parts this very morning.

Nice. Hoping to get up post-lockdown (maybe even tomorrow?) Such a lovely selection of wee roads, something sadly lacking around here.

Yes I agree that is a nice part of the country east of Loch Ness. Some plots available over there too. Not sure on schools though. Will research further.

There's lots of really nice wee areas not too far north of Dumfries, Castle Douglas, St Johns town, Thornhill, Moniaive, and all of them aren't too far west of the Motorway but are pretty rural feeling.

Dumfries is just like any other provincial Scots town centre, pretty much the same as they are in the North of England, a bit grim sadly.
