[#8342239]

For various reasons that I won't bore you with, I have a night in London (near Victoria if it makes any difference) on my own on an upcoming Saturday night. Current plan is a solo pub crawl and/or a trip to the Tate Modern that is open until 10pm.

So dear STW, any others ideas what shall I do with myself? Pubs I must visit, things to do, places to go that I won't look like a plumb being on my own?

Thanks all.

I have a night in London (near Victoria if it makes any difference)

Go to Cask. Drink many excellent beers.
Then, go to Paradise on Denbigh Street for curry. Or A Wong for Chinese if you can get a table.
Then return to Cask for a nightcap or three before bed.

Job done.

The regency is pretty crap really not sure why people rate it, if it hadn't been in layer cake no one would bother with it. The place a hundred yards past it on the corner is better. Cask is probably the best pub around there.

Only a tourist would queue, same as breakfast club in soho, you are right in the middle of the most diverse eating in the uk with cuisines from around the world from cheap to stratospheric yet you choose to spend your visiting time in london queuing for a posh bacon sandwich.
Hilarious.

In answer to the OP, Madame Tussaud's, Garfunkles and then a wander round Leicester Square in the drizzle to watch the paint run on a silver painted out of work actor standing very still.

I'd rather not if that's OK! Like the idea of a comedy club actually, I'll do some digging and see who's playing. Cask looks good too so that'll get a visit I suspect.

Garfunkels? Nah, if you're in London it has to be Aberdeen Angus Steak House

What sort of music do you like? If you like rock and metal, head up to Charing Cross road and go to the Crobar [sic]: The people in there are pretty friendly and I usually end up chatting to people when I go in there on my own.

Waxy O'Connors is usually pretty lively, close to Leicester Square. Oh, and checkout the Porterhouse in Covent Garden: It's quite a place.

Personally, I also like just wandering around: Looking for interesting little streets to discover: Piccadilly, Shaftesbury Avenue, Chinatown, are all worth a walk.

I've heard worse ideas than that...

Any other ideas would be appreciated. If it makes any difference, I will have no smart clothes with me, jeans and trainers are as good as it gets that evening.

S'th Bank for the London Eye, walk back over Golden Jubs bridge up N'berland Ave to St Martin in the Fields (listen to a performance) head over to the NPG (opens late, restaurant too) then head up back into Soho for late beers, or if you haven't eaten Princi for fabulous pizza and chilled vibe Italian style (Wardour St) then catch tube from any station along that route to head back.

Amazed it's taken this long but .....

Coke and hookers!

In reality there are walking tours during the day, street art one perhaps.

Cinemas are fine places to be solo on a weekend.

Cask as mentioned before after a wander along the southbank, great burgers and really good beer selection and more like a fancy local than a central London 'pub'.

Check the listings for gigs! There's always someone good playing in London. One time I was on a training course, mid-week, I managed to see one of my all time hero fave acts ever in a tiny club.

(Oh yeah, another time, I contacted a mate, he said, we're coming in to London tomorrow to see the Jesus and Mary Chain. I'll meet you there, says I! Bought a ticket from a bloke outside the gig, bouncer scanned it, beep! sorry mate, forgery... doe eyes.. go on then, go in, thanks! Gig was shit. ๐Ÿ˜† )

If I was on my tod for a night, I'd definitely be checking the listings at the Soho Theatre. Several stages (5?) and several shows per stage per night.

Lots of comedy, some music, some drama. Just had a quick glance, and there are 3 or 4 shows coming up that I'd like to see, eg. Tony Law, Jerry Sadowitz, Simon Munnery, Sofie Hagen. And probably a whole bunch more if I took the time to read the listings and take a punt on people I didn't know.

He is! Saw him years ago, expecting card tricks, but he just ranted for an hour. Was brilliant.

Oh if OP likes a bit of comedy, see if Bobby Mair is playing London, he's incredible.

Yeah - I queued at BC as my business partner wanted to go as he insisted it was amazing. I wasn't impressed one tiny bit.

You really have to do your own research, i have not been to breakfast club nor ever intend to as have just read the tripadvisor reviews. E Pellicci on bethnal green rd, i know its the other side of london, really was good. I love classic italian cafes and Pelliccis lunch was amazing.

I should have followed my instinct and walked out when I realised I was sat amongst excited-looking Japanese tourists and blokes with beards and ill-fitting jeans.

Goodman for a steak and some whiskey.
iMax for whatever's on after a stroll across the bridge.
Then go to Vauxhall and have someone wee on you.

EDIT: Forgot to add, cry into the hair of the woman in front of you on the night bus in shame as you head back to your hotel room.

Go to the Munich Cricket club Bier Keller. Great beers and on a Saturday night they have an oompah band belting out some tunes and dancing on tables.

The Hard Rock Cafe - like Tussauds - is for overseas tourists with more money that sense ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you are around in the daytime - the view from the 10th floor of the new extension at the Tate Modern, is rather good, and free, and a stroll away from borough market.

Lots of comedy at other places too - just look on Chortle.

Egggzakerlie, he's a "tourist" in a loose sense of the term, maybe he could go.. and let us know what it's like in a retro-styleeee reminiscing kinda way.

I went in the late 90's, can't imagine it's changed much.
