[#11020262]

Coke bottle lids that have "please recycle me" printed on top.

Here in Manchester lids aren't recycled, so I wander over to the bins, unscrew the lid, put the bottle in recycling and fling the poor little lid begging for a new life straight into the bin bound for incineration 🙁
I can just imagine it screaming on the way down... aaaiiieeeeeee....

I'm going slightly insane. It's going to be a long day
Dreaming of the weekend already

First thing that crossed my mind was "litter". Not such a small issue in places along my commute, though. And not just sad, as much infuriated.

All those millions of standard take-away coffee shop cups that aren't recycled in the UK because there are only two specialist processing centres in the country.

Ossify - look on the up side. You're contributing the calorific value of the waste to make it go nicely through an incinerator.

That's more shaking with rage for me rather than sad. And not just school gates...

Dead Pets on the road, I feel bad for the pets, but probably worse for their owners wondering where they are.

Nice people who suddenly shock you with horrible views.

For some reason, I always get a lump in my throat when I see old men sitting in a supermarket cafe on their own with a cuppa.

Similarly, when you see old folk shopping with their basket, which consists of a half loaf and a pint of milk.

Discarded inner tubes around local riding spots.

I really don't get it: presumably you packed a tube into the woods to replace the one that has now punctured. Would it be so much effort to pack it out again? And then -- dare I say it -- patch it and repair it? 🙁

Agreed. Litter is one thing (as it is relatively easy to pick up). But, as a dog owner myself, I cannot fathom what world people think they belong to when they let their dirty great big dogs crap all over paths (a popular dog walking route near me is a shared footpath/cycleway that leads directly to two schools which really grates me). There seems to be one particular dog owner that very regularly leaves huge piles behind and I will really let go with both barrels if I ever catch them.

Sad that they're leaving their missus to go round & do the shopping and they're lazing with a coffee? Quite often see older blokes at my local supermarket reading a paper in the car while the wife does the shopping. It's probably a generational thing that the wifey does the shopping/housework.

Cars parked on grass verges turning the grass into a muddy sh*tty mess.

Cars parked on grass verges so they don't have to pay parking charges at my local trail centre

Too many cars.

Homeless folk.
Litter.
People smoking around kids.
The guy who brings his 5 ish year old lad to the pub with him and then just ignores him whilst he sinks 5 pints of Stella.

The couple next door to my in-laws who smoke dope every evening (and deal all night), then head to the pub with their son who is in the same class as my eldest (9yr old) until kicking out time.
He cant concentrate for a full day so only does 10am-2pm, then they complain that the school isn't doing enough for his issues.
Poor kid hasn't got a chance.
Actually that doesn't make me sad, it makes me angry.

At our local 'recycling centre' the amount of perfectly functional stuff that gets thrown out is incredible, and only a v small amount of it ever gets recycled. Things like kids bikes and scooters especially sad to see chucked out, you know there's someone somewhere who hasn't got a lot and would love to have it. So many ways to give stuff away these days (freecycle, charity shops etc)- but maybe people just don't want second hand.

When I went to see the last Star Wars film, but my dad wasn't with me.

He took me to the cinema for the first time in my life in 1977. We lost him to cancer in 2012.

There's a bloke in my local like this. A couple of my female friends usually end up looking after his daughter while he's constantly on the phone. She's a lovely, bright, friendly kid who deserves a better dad.

Burnt chips is a shame, I'll grant you, but crispy is better than flaccid.

The guy in mine clearly just wants to sit at the bar with the same lushes who are always there and the kid just interrupts this. If the kid tries to get any interaction from his dad then he gets told to “go over there and play”. Over there being a table in the pub with a magazine and a few beer matts. Really sad.

Both the pets I've had to bury since Christmas, even the one that wasn't mine, death's not nice, and I'm too nice to just tell the kids I've buried them and sling them out of the car window somewhere.

Dead Pets on the road, I feel bad for the pets, but probably worse for their owners wondering where they are.

Well at least the larger of the two was found and returned it its owner (my ex) so she and the kids knew.

Little bags left for the Dog Poo Fairy on forest tracks.

If you're not going to pick it up, surely it would be better to let your dog do it free range in the forest?

Litter generally, but pavements covered with used chewing gum particularly. And the flamboyantly masticating, slack jawed, mouth breathing, oxygen thieves who do it.

@lunge - re: the dad drinking in the pub, firstly that's heartbreaking, poor kid. Secondly, it's possibly against the law, 1902 Licensing Act, section 2. Might be worth mentioning it to the bar manager.

Walking through Christmas Winter Wonderland at Centre Parcs, fake snow, reindeer, music, elves, magical displays, christmas lights and loveliness. Then noticing toddlers being pushed along in buggies holding phones and staring at YouTube videos or games totally oblivious to what was around them.

Had the radio on in the car earlier, and there was a story on the news about Tesco getting rid of the plastic wrapping around multi packs of stuff, this in itself is a very good thing IMO.

They then interviewed some shoppers who basically said they didn't like the idea as it'd make shopping more difficult for them, one said that its bad as she would definitely drop the loose cans, and that the plasitic didnt bother her as she didn't really recycle stuff any way.......

That made me feel a little sad, but I suppose thats what you get listening to radio 1!
