and the DJ's actually have knowledge of what they are talking about.
Mainly because the great majority of them have an actual music connection, either as actual musicians or band members, a significant number of those are still touring and recording as well, or a long-time business connection, mainly through journalism, which gives them a natural authority, plus there's the genuine love of the music for its own sake, which has always been its greatest strength for me.
It's certainly cost me a shit-load of money over the years, in gig tickets and cd's, that's for sure!
Unlike most of the presenters/DJ's on Radio 1, who always seemed to view it as a springboard to greater things in television.
Although there was Moyles...
And whatever happened to him...
Most of the chat on 6 I have no problem with, because it's naturally funny and/or intelligent, but Keaveny grates because the poor sod just isn't funny, but he seems to be blissfully unaware of the fact.
Or else he does know, in which case he's just plain irritating... ๐ฟ
I am not sure it's keavney that's the problem...I am turning towards his cynical resigned view of the world. That sycophantic ******* drummer from menswear needs to disappear quickly though, can't stand him.
I just sent one in but it's a bit OTT so I'll be surprised if it gets read out. You never know though....
Ahahaha! Win! I love those donkeys.
Donkeys? Really? ๐ You are bad people.
drummer from menswear
Say WHAT?!
Russel Brand on a 12ish, I think you'll be struggling to out pretentious that womble.
Stewart Lee on the Brand/ Paxman interview: "a monkey throwing its own excrement at a foghorn".
donkeys! I knew it, well done!
Thread is worthless without a copy of the pretention (I don't have 6M access at work)
Here you go;
Hearing Raphael speaking about seeing Kate Tempest made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I saw her perform in Brighton 18 months ago and she really struck a chord with me and made me think about my place in the world. As a result I decided to follow my heart and now work on a donkey sanctuary in the West Country. I can honestly say I've never been happier and I give a word of thanks to Kate every morning. Peace out, Dave.
I'm sure she just reads out what is handed to her, she even sounded slightly incredulous at the donkey sanctuary bit. I'm imagining her production team looking at the texts and emails - "this one is clearly bollocks, give her this to read"
best
Made my day I've just been on FaceTime to see how My little boy is after having his tonsils removed yesterday. Both robbie and Claire are dancing round the kitchen with ice cream. Thanks to body and soul....... happy tears
Cheers pk
Yesterday's attempt I can clearly see I need to up my game
Although there was Moyles...

That oxygen thief is the reason I no longer listen to XFM / Radio X. Oh, him and Vernon "xxxxxxx" Kay.
Superb, davosaurusrex!
I still can't believe the DRUMMER from MENSWEAR isn't spending his days lying on a bench in Regent's Park clutching a bottle of meths wrapped in a battered old copy of the NME from 1994, swearing at passersby about the shit business of rock n roll.

I always thought Menswear was a department, not a band, but Matt Everritt does do those good "The First Time" interviews where he asks artists their musical upbringing and education, the one a fortnight ago with Shaun Ryder was hilarious and been some good ones with Joshua Homme and the like
They were a band. But an extremely poor one.
I remember reading NME and Melody Maker BITD and those arseholes were all over them without actually having released a record. Arseholes.
Brilliant Davosaurusrex! Just brilliant!!!
Let's keep this one going it's ace!
Edit: nothing is too over the top in this game, clearly.
I love 6music but this is a great thing happening.
I can listen all day except 4-7, Lammo could drive me to dig my own grave with a fork with 2 prongs.
Back in the day I used to hate the fawning sycophantic stuff from Edith Bowman and Jo Whiley, every one hit wonder band they introduced onto Radio 1 was made to sound like the bloody Beatles.
Just brilliant!! I was in the car laughing this morning at donkey sanctuary ๐
Take a bow.

Then they released one and it was shit. I've still got the 7" ๐
Tomorrow's needs to sign off with "Go **** yourself San Diego!"I'm sure she just reads out what is handed to her, she even sounded slightly incredulous at the donkey sanctuary bit.
Can't play unfortunately, don't have radio at work ( ๐ ) but do please keep it up, and the updates on here.
Shaun Ryder
I used to know a bloke who worked with Shaun Ryder when they were both postmen.
I got the inspiration for the donkey sanctuary bit from my dear old mum. She always said it was her ambition to set one up. She did the square root of f-all about it though, God rest her soul. Not that she's dead mind you but I always say it's the thought that counts.
They were a band. But an extremely poor one.
A point which gets made by Keaveny at any given opportunity, and, to his credit, Everitt does play up to it.
They really weren't very good, I have a (very) vague recollection of having seen them once supporting someone, may have been Sleeper, but that shows how little an impression they made at the time.
I'm sure she just reads out what is handed to her, she even sounded slightly incredulous at the donkey sanctuary bit. I'm imagining her production team looking at the texts and emails - "this one is clearly bollocks, give her this to read"
Well, yeah, I think that's how all radio studios work, they have someone who deals with the email/twitter/Fb feeds and print off anything that might get read out, because it obviously has to be edited for possible profanity, so if they think it's worth reading out, they'll hand it to LaLa or whoever, I'm sure the presenter doesn't have time to keep track of everything that goes through the various social media feeds.
I'm certain some of what Radcliffe & Maconie is of slightly ...dubious provenance, but they run with it.
Had me crying with laughter at times, true or not. Sadly, I only started listening to LaLa this morning after the memory tapes feature, so I missed this being read out, was being force-fed Radio ****king One before that; Christ, I hate that station!
I coincidentally heard that whilst driving through Sidmouth this morning, home of the donkey sanctuary, so didn't immediately recall this thread - well done Dave!
I got my comment deleted for saying what I think of Mary Ann Hobbs!

If it was negative I should bloody well hope so too, she gave me my big break on The Chain, so she'll always be high on my list of favs. Being on national radio hasn't changed me btw.
#MAHRocks
What time does she normally do this? I will make sure I tune in tomorrow.
I just sicked in my mouth
Oh I get MAH now. Her schtick IS meant to be ironic and she's not actually a complete idiot.
She could talk me to sleep every night. ๐
I like the music Mary Ann Hobbs plays, but her presenting style does seem to involve dropping acid and speaking to fairies at the bottom of the garden!
But what other radio station are you going to find Iggy Pop, who has the best voice ever, and brilliantly being stood in for by Henry Rollins at the moment and the ace ramblings of John Cooper Clark?
I have a soft sot for MAH and have since her days doing The Breezeblock Sessions waaaaaay back in the early 00's. Be nice to her.
Sat next to LL at a wedding reception a few years back. Tidy but not much more to report.

same. the Breezeblock was amazing! Back in my music days MAH would occasionally play my tunes out - she was unfailingly nice, friendly and supportive, always replied to emails, and I know plenty others who say the same. In fact probably the whole of the dubstep scene would say they owe her a debt of gratitude.
But yeah she does overdo it on 6 music sometimes ๐
I don't get the hate for MAH. The Breezeblock entertained me for many an insomnia riddled night and she does a lot to promote great underground artists and genres. She also loves the Deftones and plays them on daytime radio at any opportunity so that's a big win in my book.
LaLa doesn't half waffle some nonsense, especially when she's speaking to/reading stuff from the public. She's got decent taste though.
the Breezeblock was amazing!
Agreed! Exchanged a few emails with her myself. But she's changed...and not for the better ๐
She once punched me in the face when kenickie supported the voodoo queens in Manchester a long time ago. I made a very poor attempt at chatting her up.
Always enjoy Huey or Cerys on the weekend mornings, really enjoyed Henry Rollins last couple of weeks. JCC is wonderful to listen to so is Iggy. Thats what I like about 6music the variety.
Not the pretentious thing, but Desert Island Disco is a little bit banging today, isn't it? ๐
Lauren has got Father John Misty on in a minute. Could be interesting as he was a right knob on Radcliffe and Maconie a few months ago.
[Moyles] is the reason I no longer listen to XFM / Radio X. Oh, him and Vernon "xxxxxxx" Kay.
Not only is Moyles on Radio X, it's exactly the same show he had on R1. Right down to Dominic and a couple of other hangers on, and "the saviour of Radio X" schtick.
TBH, it's not too bad. When he first started on R1 he was an aggressive, obnoxious cretin who took every opportunity to have a pop at his colleagues. He's calmed down a lot now, it borders on entertaining sometimes.
As for Vernon, I quite like him, but his taste in music is bloody woeful.
When is this on? I might send in..
"Hearing Pulps "Common People" brought back fond memories of when I worked for a charity in Malawi helping to bring fresh water to the area. I'm not sure if it was the music, heat exhaustion or simply frustration, but I immediately decided to do something about MY life! I rang my parents and they got me on the next plane home. I now work in a large Hedge Fund in the City earning a 7 figure salary, and I have to say things have improved greatly for me!! Please dedicate this to my friend Charles, who is currently serving 6 years for his part in Libor scandal."
