We're planning a Scottish hillwalking trip end October. We're pretty experienced, done 30+ Munroes in winter conditions, trips to Nepal and some of the seven summits between us.
Planning a wild camping trip to knock off a few more Munroes and I'm suggesting Knoydart - easier to do the walk in before the snows come down is my theory.
What will conditions be like end of October - temperature, wind etc?
Cheers

you have done 30 munroes and you expect an accurate view on what the weather will do. ๐Ÿ˜€
in scotland. ๐Ÿ˜€

joking apart though god knows, maybe you could find the average for that time on line somewhere.
knoydart is the finest place i have been ever i reckon. hope the sun come out for you.

Wet cold and miserable or decent - who knows.

I have been on Munros in October in deep snow and in warm sunshine

Surprised you're asking the question if you've done 30 Munros (no e)in winter conditions?

Not a hope in hell of predicting mountain forecasts that far out

The snow does'nt usually start settling on the hills till late november or december so you should be fine with that aspect. The temperatures at that time of year are usually around 8 or 9 celsius so not too bad but it can get much colder up the top of the mountains. Bear in mind you only have around 9 hours of daylight sunrise being at about about half 7 and sunset at half 4 ish. Its generally windy most of the time and you can expect a lot of rain but when thers a good day its stunning on top of the likes of Sgurr Coire Choinnichean behind Inverie bay.

I had to ask the same question as post no. 2. All that experience and you're asking the muppets on here?

Camping in Scotland in Autumn your major obsession is going to be MIDGES. Take repellent, nets, mosquito coils for burning in the tent and a can of insecticide. Seriously; midges can and often do ruin people's holidays. I've had several family camping trips cut short thanks to the little beggars.

Otherwise it could be typically wet and windy with a succession of Atlantic fronts blasting over or if you get settled anticyclonic conditions, you could get sunburned. And bitten by midges. It will be very wet underfoot so spare socks will be appreciated. Finally check yourselves whenever possible for ticks crawling up into the groin.
