Can anyone suggest somewhere fun to take the kids for 2-3 hours that is fairly close to the M6 between Glasgow and Manchester? I want to break up a long journey for them!

10, 4 and 1 years old.

Thanks.

some national trust properties not far off the motor way near lakes - siezergh [spell?] castle for example but not really in the middle of your journey.

Rheged, or eden ostrich world if you are prepared to venture a little bit further from the motorway.

Junkyard - thanks, will look into that

iDave - Didn't think of that, they had a huge BBQ on last time we stopped there. Just have to try and keep the wife out of the farm shop, or at least keep her handbag out of it.

I'm a fan of craigieburn gardens near Moffat , maybe check out the website though, might not be everybodys idea of family fun.

Hadrian's Wall. Head inland at Carlisle to Housesteads and Vindolanda. That's what we've done in the past (from Aberdeen and Glasgow to Oxford).

But Manchester to Glasgow isn't THAT long. Two DVDs, surely?
