I just completed my first full journey! We just did a 10 mile loop, dipping into the Peak and back. I wanted to stop somewhere for a victory picture but everywhere is absolutely rammed as always.
Once I'd stopped stressing out I remembered why I bought it. It's clean and presentable, the cabin looks brand new and it's not a bad place to sit. It's many levels of niceness above the average Connect you see flying around. It just needs some big comfy Mondeo seats and it's finished. Even the mrs. is back on board.
The problem was literally just a blown fuse. He said the DPF looks brand new. Fair play to him for taking it back and fixing it and then dropping it off first thing this morning even though it's something that definitely wasn't his fault.
Hopefully that's the end of that. If your Transit Connect ever blows up I can recommend someone.
Is the fuse the correct size? A brand new DPF must have a tale to tell? I am an overthinker...
The lad who did the swap sounds as if he knows his stuff rather than just being able to work spanners. A rare thing these days and worth his weight in gold.
THREAD RESURRECTION
I just remembered about this thread and thought I'd stick in an update as my last post (8 months ago) certainly wasn't the start of a trouble free relationship.
After a few carefree local drives the power went away. I was guessing the turbo had died as it was running but with absolutely no enthusiasm. With lots of big hills between me and home it was a pretty slow and stressful drive back. So I was driving along, barely moving, waiting for the death rattle and then, with the sound of a gunshot, the small chip in my windscreen turned into a full width crack. I papped my pants but I was still moving. Inching, slowly homewards.
So, I had a new heated windscreen fitted for £140 and then it went to a garage who couldn't fix the boost problem. They had to call in an electrician to replace the actuator. At this point I've given up Googling things to try and understand the problem so I took their word for it. £400 later It's back on the road.
Then it was MOT time. It got through with just advisories for worn brakes. If I keep putting it in the garage it'll bankrupt me so I ordered a full set of discs and pads and spent the day on my back wrestling with rusty caliper bolts, skinning my knuckles and swearing at it. Now I have all new brakes which feel mint.
I'm trying to use it a couple of times a week to make sure it starts so we drove it to Tesco. On returning to the van there's a huge pool of fresh liquid underneath it. Yes, the filler hose has perished and is leaking go-juice from both ends. We're only a couple of miles away from home so cue another nerve wracking journey.
A £20 pipe and an hours work and it's fixed. As far as I know, that's everything that needed to be fixed, fixed. There's currently nothing wrong with it.
So far I've got over 5 grand in my 3 grand van. It was supposed to go to Morzine in July. Would you dare?
And finally, we're having our first child in June. Which means that any time we want to actually use the van, by throwing the bikes in and going away for a weekend, my stupid 2 seater van is completely useless. Perfect.
If it has sliding side doors turn it into a crew van get some seats off ebay and you can buy a window kits with the glue. Measure 20 times and cut once when cutting out the metal for the windows. That's what I did to my Citroen Dispatch. I picked up the factory seats which matched up with the reinforcement in the floor. A few large bolts and some carpet sorted it. Had to remove the bulkhead behind the driver. Need to fit seat belts which came with the seats.
Vans can be expensive mine is having an engine replacement at present after it seized before christmas. Oil rarely needed topping up approx every 8 months and I had topped it up the day before but hadn't changed it for a while. Cambelt had been changed. Will probably end up with a bill for £2.5K. The power steering pump went on my old van luckily when we had got to our camp site in Lake Garda. The replacement Pumpi Libre cost around £1200. I've had two EGR valve failures (old van) leaving me stranded on the side of the motorway. I'm contemplating returning to a people carrier but the van is handy.

I'm considering this, it's supposed to be quite easy. I've got 2 sliding doors and I've already cut the roof to fit a skylight which was quite straight forward.

Thanks, I'm actually looking forward to it! I would love nothing more than to sell it and see it drive out of sight for the last time. But then, I still kind of need a van and I'd be stuck paying inflated prices for a replacement. I might advertise it on Facebook because it's free and see if I get any serious offers.

I would love to swap it for an Octavia or Volvo but at the start of lockdown I bought a YZ125. My first ever MX bike and I haven't had a chance to ride it yet due to lockdown. So ideally I'd need something like a regular size Tranny with a row of middle seats. Just until I've scratched my lifelong motocross itch, or broken my first bone. Then I'm cashing out and going family wagon all the way.
Our 'decent vehicle' budget is currently tied up in a 3 door Fiesta. Definitely would have looked at the Focus if I'd known what was coming! It wasn't an accident, but as soon as we started trying the deed was done. At least I know I'm functional.

Do crew seats come with ISOFIX? What's the side impact/crash safety rating in a van? How warm/cool is it in the back?
Some questions I'd be asking myself before I started down that road.

Don't get a focus estate. The rear seats aren't as spacious as you imagine. Two isofix child seats and I now have an uncomfortable driving position

Very unlucky, whenever I buy a car always check the cambelt interval, or just have a kit pit on it to give you peace of mind .
