[Closed] itunes deleted all my mp3 files - recover?

Pretty sure this coincided with itunes last autoupdate. ALL my mp3s have vanished from My Music (where itunes was pointing). The folder structure has remained, but every folder is now empty. That would have been a tough thing to do by accident, but there seems to be no end to how Apple's software can fek up your files. Should have back up my music earlier, 5000 songs gone.

Any ideas what might have happened?

Or, is there a way I can restore my mp3s (as mp3 files) from my ipod?

thanks

I guess you have searched for the file names? (just wondering if it might have "organised" your files if you didn't let it do it previously, hmm, you probably noticed 'cos the files were missing in iTunes so that probably isn't it...)
Google for iPod unlocking stuff and you should find some, seen it about before, not used any though so no recommendations.

What a long and uninformative post ๐Ÿ™‚

Sorry , can't help with this, but this is a useful backup tool:

Might help in the future (and not just for iTunes)

It's usually caused by itunes synching to your mp3 player (iPod presumably) which doesn't have stuff on so it deletes it all from your computer - great, eh. Make sure you untick the option...

Could a file recovery program do the biz, before you go re-writing over the disk space?

I did this by accident, trying to copy 80Gb of music onto an external drive. Unfortunately my computer only had about 5Gb left, there wasn't enough to buffer and the whole lot got dumped. I used iPod.iTunes, which does the whole process for you, and works really well. Got all mine back, backed up onto external drive, soon onto portable external drive as well, along with several thousand picture files as well. Better safe than sorry, once bitten, etc.

I think there are programs out there that will nab stuff off your iPod and put them back on your PC. Do a google search and you should find it.

Also have you searched all your drives for *.mp3? COuld be as suggested, they are lurking in another folder somewhere? I stuck a 2nd HDD into my PC and moved my music onto it. iTunes was a bit confused until I told it where to look.

tried all that, but they're gone. Anyone know an Undelete program that works on a wireless network drive?
