Interesting this it's shit v I don't like it debate.

"It's shit" implies to me that it's a fact rather than an matter of taste.

"I don't like it" suggests that it wasn't your cup of tea but someone else may like it.

But I'd be as guilty as anyone when I'm in a mood.

For instance who could deny the Dan Ackroyd classic 'Nothing but trouble' shares the same DNA as dog muck?

Have to throw in Free Fire as a great film, a very different approach to a gun fight with some great actors in there.

Follow it up with A Field in England - only joking, that is not a film for most people, it's interesting and very dark

Pulp Fiction has to be a contender?

Not with all the Tarantino haterz around.

And you'd never get agreement on the Godfather films either. Even though II is an amazing film with De Niro at his best.

Come on - Thunderbolt and Lightfoot? That's gotta be one, hasn't it?!

Heard an interview with a classical conductor

Shit music 😉

“It’s shit” implies to me that it’s a fact rather than an matter of taste.

“I don’t like it” suggests that it wasn’t your cup of tea but someone else may like it.

Where are the guidelines for something being shit for a fact versus opinion. I think I need to read them before ever having an opinion on something ever again 🙄

The Darjeeling Limited

&

Notting hill (again) because of the scene where MrFloppy walks through the market amongst the seasons & the scene where Goofy knocks on his door and utters those immortal words “I’m just a girl, looking for a bloke to love her”

Its sublime.

The difference being what exactly?

Neither are saying it’s a fact. This really isn’t difficult. Something that one person finds to be shit can he liked by another. Nothing is shit for a fact. It’s all just opinions

I’d disagree with that statement. I love the pedantry on here. Both are my opinion. Just because it doesn’t meet your personal rules (which I think are shit by the way) for expressing oneself through words doesn’t mean I’m claiming to have any authority. If anyone’s failing to grasp things here I’d say it’s you 😀

yeah, got to get them all out into the open....

Lazy criticism that you don't like something is one of those strange things in the modern world, people don't seem to be able to say I don't like something at all. They have to blame the thing for not being what they wanted it to be

A bit like the last jedi

If you want to claim something many other people think is good then give a bit of a reason, or just be lazy and go Shit

Shit

Shit

Bored

Shit

What a shit thread

Not good enough Dez. We require a nine page document outlining why it’s shit. You can’t go around having simple reasons for not liking things. Details man, details!

Just watching Leon: the professional now. For the first time in years. It truly is a great film. Oldman is amazing.

Re: the "it's shit" vs "I don't like". I can see (hear) that Amy Whitehouse is an accomplished singer but I don't like her work. It's not to my taste. Some people might take that disinterest as me saying her music is shit but they'd be wrong and misunderstanding what is actually being said.

Back on topic.

Really the criteria for the thread should be: you've invited a load of mates round for a few beers and there's a pile of videos by the TV. Which of the films should be chosen to please most people?

You can hear better than I can then, cos she sounds like a shit pub singer to me.

Anyway, that Amy film is ok, but not great.

Ferris Bueler is a kids' film.

Toy Story 3 has to be up there with The Princess Bride, shirley?

And the Wizard of OZ - who doesn't like that? 🙂

Wizard of Oz has musical numbers. Musicals are the devil.

Ferris Bueler is a kids’ film.

Ferris fails the ‘Don’t be a dick’ rule 24 times for every minute of screen time. I’m sure there is an extended cut out there with a post credits sequence. Said sequence is footage of Cameron’s funeral and his Father being arrested for murder.
