Just back from a wander up Kendals main street and all the pubs are ****in soul less ended up in one on Stricklegate did not catch its name.
Walked into a few and thought Nah!
Got to find some rented accomadation tomorrow but tonight has left me on a bit of a downer!!!
Yup its a dump!
Do you need to be in Kendal? Try heading over to ambleside or stavely (both with great bike shops - biketreks and wheelbase respectively), and better pubs!
Nick
The Golden Rule, proper beer in a proper pub ( Ambleside)
Burgundys on Lowther St, just off Highgate in the centre of town is a good 'un.

and is that in Kendal ??
and is that in Kendal ??
Nope, it's in Ambleside, as he stated.
+1 for Bergundys & then The Brewery & The Castle
The Brewery Arts Centre, south end of town.
Most of the rest are soulless Wetherspoons clones as you say but The Brewery is great.
I told you this in the other thread. :p
Get to Staveley, the eagle and child is nice, and there's the hawkshead brewery hall.
Eagle and child today for a cheap Saturday lunch good beer(fog on the tyne)!
Could not see the wheelbase on our drive around!
tis in Station Yard/Rd. if coming from North miss left turn to Kentmere and take next left turn in village centre, then straight ahead . If coming from South right turn at shop(on left)and keep right into Yard.
Just looks like a big industrial unit(it is!! ). To the right are all the small arty crafts and bakers shops. Straight ahead and to the right is brewery, cheese maker, round the back you get car parking and Wilfs Cafe.
It is one way turning left and going behind Wheelbase to park
The pub along the road at Ings is reputedly very good, own beer etc.

it is difficult, it is a massive warehouse afterall! typical postie can't find the address 😉

First off,Kendal is no way a dump!!tis a lovely place to live. The Brewery arts centre is good, nice food and good beer, lots of entertainment.Burgundys, probably the best beer pub in Cumbria if you dont want to be squashed by fat beardy tourists(watermill at ings???)dicky doodles off main street near bodycare, good beer and live music almost every night,Bootleggers on finkle st nice chilled bar good music and if you want a proper drinking pub walk down over the river and go in The Castle.Or you could go to ambleside where admittedly they have a good bike shop but the pubs are crap and expensive!
Wot frog farmer says. Burgundys is nice.
The Station is OK for food. The real problem for kendal is the lack of decent restaurants.

Not wishing to cause offence but you are in danger of sounding like the typical city boy meets small town reality and could suffer from classic "incomer" syndrome
oy postie..........i'm from wakefield............ 8)
royal thawa ,great indian on kent street not far from bootleggers great food
Dickie doodles good for live music and a late beer ,try burgundys off the high street towards the river
Got to admit good restaurants are a bit thin on the ground in Kendal, but the New moon is good,if you want a good curry without a doubt the Eastern Balti on wildman st is very good, you will be hard pushed to get a better pizza than the ones in the brewery, but the trick is to get just a couple of miles out of town and you will find some great eating places.
lived in keswick for 3 years, abbleside for 6 months then kendal, ok you cant call it a dump its just not as nice (or as full of grokels) as the rest of the lakes and ok and the pub arnt the same class but you can have live music (bootleggers or dick doodles/brewery) and get a desent kebab , its swings and roundabouts, kendal has what the rest of the lakes dont,
+1 for the new moon restaurant , had another lovely meal there last week and very reasonable priced.
ps, the riverside hotel, had one of the nicest meals there ever, but costs
