Just for everyday tasks?
No major games or anything - Minecraft, web browsing, bit of homework type DTP etc.
And are most laptops upgradeable with RAM, or are they fixed. Full tech specs seems very short on the usual PC World type sites.

My laptop has 4gb and it seems plenty
It's fine - have a Helix with 4Gb and 8.1 loaded with a test work image, and they love to load a whole bunch of crap on there that you won't.
It is SSD though which helps a lot.
Plenty, min spec for Win8 is 1Ghz processor and 1GB RAM or 2 if you want the 64bit version (do they still offer win8 in 32bit??).
Anyway, forget about the "oh won't someone PLEEEEEASE think of the start button" Windows 8 is more than just a fancy looking OS MS sold us because it hates us all, it actually needs fewer resources than windows 7 to work faster than windows 7.
Look up the model on crucial.com/uk - it'll tell you the maximum officially supported.
