On the back of this thread started S2 - and thoroughly enjoyed all the four episodes I've seen so far, but particularly 12 Days of Christine.

Then the wife said i could get S1 on her Amazon prime account and so started on them now - good twist in Sardines but then 'A quiet night in' was just brilliant. Not so much for the twist, which i sort of predicted but just so damn clever mixing up all the elements and chucking in a bit of slapstick......

Why is stuff like this 'niche' and Mrs Brown's Boys primetime....... I know it's audience figures but if the public can't see it, they shouldn't be allowed to operate machinery or use knives as clearly they're not competent.

Oh yeah, I'll give em that - "To Have and To Hold" was excellent.

I had missed out on this until the current series and am now working my way slowly through the old episodes on Netflix (although series 3 is not available). Quite the best television I have seen in years. Favourite so far are A Quiet Night In and Bernie Clifton's Dressing-room. This week's was light on laughs but seriously dark.

And I thought the rhyming one (oh yeah, it was in a hotel, one bloke playing 2 parts) was just dull

If there's a criticism to be levelled, it can be a bit referential - I watched the Cheese & Crackers one with my lad and loved it, but unlike me, my lad wasn't a kid in the early '80s so didn't get all the stuff about Crackerjack, and who the hell are the Krankies? Come to that, how many people under the age of 40 know who Bernie Clifton was? The lad's not thick, he just doesn't have the cultural reference points of early '80s naff telly to set it against.

I think Zanzibar (the hotel one written in iambic pentameter) is similar but more so - if you are into Shakespeare, it was brilliant, but if not, I can imagine enjoying it much less. I saw the twins confusion thing and immediately thought "brilliant riff on Twelfth Night" but if you don't know the play then it's just a bloke playing two parts and talking in rhyme for no apparent reason.

Perhaps that's the answer as to why no. 9 is "niche" while Mrs Browns Boys is "mainstream" - you're not expected to have an in depth knowledge of 500 year old plays to get the gags in Mrs Brown's Boys...

I loved Zanzibar. A bit of "Comedy of Errors" too I think.

just finished watching the lot now, and finished off with last weeks 'to have and to hold'.  wow!  that was dark!!

favourites have been that one (THATH), the trial of elizabeth gadge, 12 days of christine, the bill and diddle diddle dumpling.  it really is superb writing, DDD going from comedy farce to heartbreak effortlessly.

didnt really enjoy the karaoke or call centre episodes, but could still see how well written they were.

really very good entertainment, worth the licence fee just for that!

Was anyone aware, but that silver hare ornament that appears as the curse in this week's episode, has appeared in every episode from day 1. Even in the one done in a karaoke booth, someone pulls out a photo and it's on the mantelpiece in the photo.

My Wife mentioned this after reading it on the internet (although we hadn't spotted it); we might have to re-watch them all to see if we can spot it.

We've loved the whole 4 series - absolutely brilliant!

I've just discovered a series of posters covering some episodes on the BB2 site:

Enjoyed the last one, good to see Nigel Planer involved. The one before with the TV awards was pretty dull though. Mostly good, but a bit hit & miss imo.
