Has anyone given themselves an infection through cycling?

I had a couple of scabs on my legs the last time I went around Dartmoor about 2-3 weeks ago, I knocked one of the scabs off while ridding and it ended up getting some crud in it..... I did my best a the time to scrape/wash out the dirt with what I had and gave it a good wash when home.

It looks like that I have picked up a bacterial infection ๐Ÿ˜ฏ and now have nice red blotches on my legs.... which has spread to my hands, arms, neck and chest..... I was worried I had scabies.... but Dr has put that worry to rest and has given me a course of antibiotics. Well she is hoping it works as she doesn't know what it is atm....

Deep joy!

Cheers, Steve

I had a similar thing from a rugby stud injury a few years ago.
Got it swabbed at the GP and was told it was a Staph aureus infection, cleared up quickly enough with antimicrobials but can remember it itched horribly for a few days!
I later learned that S. aureus tends to live up ones nose, so picking your nose and your scabs is ill advised!

A riding mate got a dog toffee flicked up behind his sunnies. I can't remember how many times he had to go to hospital with the resulting eye infection but it was a lot.

Seems the sort of thing I have, started itching today....
Don't want to go outside for fear of being set to a leper colony...

Had a mate who was worried he might lose his leg from an insect bite (photos are pretty grim), be thankful we don't live in the tropics.

Had a horse fly bite the other day from up Cardinham, that itched like a bugger!

Misses had a bite that turned to cellulitis, she wasn't very well with it...

Just a mental infection.. Causes me to ride a bike as much as possible, random thoughts about riding bikes, thinking about bikes, trawling of Internet for new parts and planning new bike builds. I suspect they are yet to find a cure..

Yep, doctor actually looked a bit faint as I took the bandage off which remove the surface crust with it, causing a load of yellow goop to blob out ๐Ÿ˜€

I also had a load of blotches starting to appear but they went very quickly with antibiotics. The new bum hole I had in my knee took a long while to heal though and was goopy for ages.

See your GP and it's just bad luck?

Pushing my DH bike up hill and I was bitten on the leg by horse fly or mosquitoes and my knee swelled up 2 days later and I had to get antibiotics.

Sorted after a week but also taught me to stay away from walking into swarms next time. Ride fast around them next time!

Turned out the infection kicked off some guttate psoriasis, things have started to calm down a bit now, still dotty but have all sorts of creams and washes stop me looking like the worlds worst dandruff victim...

I picked up a nasty infection in my arm either through MTBing and/or doing a Mudrun type event.

Small spot/scab on my arm, then inflammation/cellulitis.

Antibiotics sorted it but not before I had to spend an hour a day squeezing (Doc told me to do it) the pus out and draining the brown liquid out of the hole.
After about 5 days eventually only what can be described as pea sized green (not an actualy pea) "plug" emerged leaving a nice deep hole.

It healed up nicely after that but I still have notch in my arm where the infection was.

Good times!

I haven't had anything go super-manky. Cuts will often stay "warm" indicating some sort of infection but the body seems to have dealt with it by itself recently.

I try not to touch anything until I've had a shower - hands have probably got more bugs on them than mud / dust.

Did meet a girl when I was travelling who had infected sandfly bites all up her leg. That wasn't any fun for her, and it was pretty grim to look at.
