Big life change for the family and me, we’ve taken an opportunity to move north. Really looking forward to having the great outdoors I.e. mountains lochs and biking on the doorstep rather than a couple of hrs away. Hoping to meet some friendly locals who can show me round the trails 🙏 😁

P.s. if anyone is considering selling a house then do let me know 😉😁

Welcome to the town that is so big for it's boots it is a city...Town is a far better term for it, but it is a great place to live.

Welcome...plenty riding to be had from loads of informal groups to organised group stuff, from social stuff to club things - loads of variety and all very welcoming.

The hills above Gargunnock are spectacularly boggy.

Enjoy!

Perfect situation for some great road loops 😉

Cambusbarron on your doorstep for MTB, Callander and Aberfoyle a stone's throw away for MTB, Comrie not much further.

Fallen Brewery especially close for all your hop based recovery.

Could have done a lot worse! 😎

I would be the worst daughter in the world if I didn’t point out that if you need a taxi anywhere (that’s big enough to fit a bike bag in) my dad is a driver there (based in Dunblane). It’s just him, Reeve’s Taxis, so it’s usually better to pre book. If you do use him, be sure to ask about knitting his own artisan cycle jersey back in the day!

Dunblane is worth a visit with the kids - mine like the giant slide in the park, and there’s quite a large skate park too, which is a bit tucked away so you have to look for it/know it’s there.

Nice, he'll shortly be getting a booking to ferry two pissed cyclists back to Auchterarder from a knees up in Dunblane next week 😂

Welcome I moved to the area 5 years ago and have never looked back.

Shamefully I don't get out with Stirling bike club very much or the Stirling Area Mountainbike Mudders on FB.

But both are welcoming groups who ride a lot.

Also if you like trail running, do the Gargunnock hill race at the fair in the summer or the uni Dumyat race when it comes round in May.

Thank you everyone, getting there now and hoping to get out for a first ride on Monday. Been for a walk up the hill out of the village and enjoyed the view this afternoon. So much to go at but hoping to connect in with locals in the coming weeks.

I do a bit of trail and fell running so will get training for those two runs you’ve mentioned jacobff 👍

Happy riding all 😎

Jumping on this thread as me and my husband are considering a move to Callander this year (from Edinburgh). Wanting to be closer to trails, lochs, hills etc but trying to find communities / friends of people similar to us - our biggest concern is that the population is slightly... older and not into the same things as us. This thread as reassured me a little! Anyone living in or near Callander got any insight they can provide? We're in our thirties, (obviously) love biking but also running, swimming, kayaking. How easy is it to find others in the general area into those things too? Cheers!

@dickbarton I think it’s all on a meter, you’re more likely to hear embarrassing tales of my childhood than get a discount!

@lucygs

Callander has quite a large community of riders, runners and general adventurer's. It's a place I would happily live. There's a few on here.

It is a bit more on the 'head west' as getting back to A9 to go 'head east' adds and extra 20-30 mins.

I'd consider that a discount! Beats finding out if he has been busy or when he finishes!

Callander is probably very good choice - plenty of people your age doing that stuff!

My partner and I just moved to Callander a few months ago and there’s plenty of 30s ish folk around. The social side of things also doesn’t totally revolve around the school which as a childless couple is nice. Lots of bikers, wild swimmers and the like. Definitely more of a friendly village vibe then small town.

If any Stirlingshire folks fancy a ride then feel free to message me or look out for the sweaty ginger on a green Scott 👍
