We've been invaded by a Labrador dog for the last 12months and MrsTM happened to take 6months off work at the same time. It was great for him as he took to being with us really well - When MrsTM went back to work we found a really good local dog day care - Hes with them 3 days a week, loads of socialising and doggy play, and the other 2 days hes at home with one of us (working from home) - I couldnt imagine leaving him for more than a couple of hours on his own and maybe he is spoiled by all the attention.

Dogs are rubbish. They're boring, serious, and ugly.

They're also no fun.

Eventually at the grand age of 46 I/we got one and he's never left for more than 4/5 hours and only then after a good walk. Good to see this POV being aired frequently on here.

Or on the otherhand our lurcher is happy enough being left from 9 till 5 most days. Although seemingly unusually she is left in the back garden with a kennel.

OK well it happened!
Picked her up on the 19th of December. She'll be 13 weeks as of tomorrow and settled in perfectly.
Here she is when we first got her.

So which one of you gave up work so it wouldn't be left at home on it's own?

Cute pup.

I'm not totally sure about the right or wrong time to leave dogs alone. I think the odd period doesn't hurt - they kind of know it is an exception - but it depends partly on the circumstances and whether they're okay with it. My dog comes to the office with me and would happily go from 0730 to 1700hrs without needing to go out side or, at times, even moving, unless that is, there's any food about. He's the same when my wife works at home and has him with her.

It very much depends on the dog. Which brings me onto the other thing I don't like; generalising what dogs are 'like' by size, breed, colouring etc. etc. because in truth, you get the dog you get. If you have it from a pup you can contribute to its development, but just as children from the same parents vary widely, so do dogs. they are individuals. Taking on any dog means, to a varying extent, accepting that lottery.

No need to get worked up. It's just an infographic, it's job is to present information, it does that, therefore it is not pointless. It's not a condemnation, or an order, it's just information. You can do something with it or you can choose to ignore it.

I found the pointless infographic quite interesting.

Impossibly cute pup by the way. We've got two whippets, but they were never that cute!

Thanks for all your comments. I wasn't going to bother returning to this thread due to a general negative feel from some comments but I'll just wrap it up now.
Tsuki has settled in really well and everything has so far fallen into place perfectly.
She usually has one full day a week alone but there are no signs what so ever she is at all bothered by that. During the day when we are with her she will tend to enjoy her own space either curling up in bed or on the rug, very cat like in that way.
From day one she has slept right through every night and have not heard a peep from her until I get up and go down.
She wasn't house trained when we got her but within days of being allowed outside she naturally got the hang of it so that has been a breeze.
Walking on the lead really well too and will go for miles already. Absolutely reaping the rewards right now!

Dogs sleep lots and I mean lots so leaving on their own isn't as big issue as people make out.

I've had a couple of friends with shiba's

lovely dogs, and very cute looking

but puppies shouldn't walk much distance, it can damage their joints as they grow, just bear it in mind

Note to self. Do not show the picture of Tsuki to my wife or children. Your puppy is impossibly gorgeous!

You will wake to the cutest dog farts. Make sure you get her 'chipped ASAP' lots of naughty people about.

Is your dog called 'Thrust' or 'Moon' (Google translate)

I think some of you missed the post where he said he has someone to look in on the pup.

Very cute

I would say not to walk it too far as a pup though. I always advice the 5 minute rule for walking. which is 5 minutes for every month they have lived. Until there fully mature, which varies between breeds.

POSTED 1 DAY AGO #

She's chipped already, the breeder sorted that.

She was named with the word for moon in mind. (I'm pretty sure the Kanji is correct... Been brushing up on my Japanese ) Pronunciation is probably less accurate though. But she's Tsuki it sounds nice and suits her too I think.

Yes I mindful not to over walk her, but then after short walks she wants to run laps of the garden/house so what's the difference whether she's on the lead with me or running about the place?
The longer walks I have had my daughter and pushchair so she gets a ride if she feels like it.

Here's another pic, taken just now.
