Just watching Garden Rescue on TV and they are putting a bit of decking down. The guy sorting the decking explained that the groves should actually be on the underside of the decking. They are to allow air flow between the decking and the wood it is mounted to, to reduce rotting. They aren't too prevent the wood being slippery under foot which is what I'd always assumed, in fact the grooves allow water to puddle making the situation worse. As sad as it is I found all this pretty interesting as I don't think I've ever seen decking in gardens without the grooves being on the top. Yep, this is as interesting as my life gets these days. 😁
