[Closed] How many speeding offenses have you had?
My second in 12 years today 🙁
0 in 10
0 in 30years
1 in 29 years
89 in a 60 on a Triumph Bonneville
1 in 15.
Copper told me "don't take it out on the missus tonight"..WTF??!
1 in 21
None.
My other half may have received a warning letter from the community speed watch team this morning, from a time when I may have been driving, and I may have chosen to deliberately incite their attention, and said letter may now be residing at the bottom of my recycling bin, safe from her return. 😈
None in 15 years.
Been pulled over once, on the M6, for "having no insurance". Whether it was a geunine error on their part, the ANPR computer/DVLA database playing up or they just wanted a closer look at the wreck of a car I was driving I never knew - I had full comp insurance and everything was legal so they just checked it out then let me on my way with a cheery "have a good day".
2 in ... 16 years.
the first one was fair cop: i was driving 'enthusiastically' (60 odd in a 60, which isn't much, but i knew i was exceeding the limit)
the second one still annoys me: 46 in a 40, but it was only just inside the 40, and i was slowing down (from 50odd in a 60) because i'd seen the limit sign but didn't know there was a camera with a hair trigger more-or-less-mounted-to-the-same-pole...
i'm a total dawdler behind the wheel, if I'VE had 6 points, how come everyone* else is still allowed to drive?
(*does anyone else get flashed by the driver behind for sticking to a 30? or overtaken, in a 30?)
1 in 26
Is this the same as how many times you've been caught?
Have been overtaken in a 30 (I drive a sporty Audi an S version) and the overtaker proceeded to dawdle in the next NSL. How does that work?
Had 3 SP30s in 30 years none since 2005.
Have been caught once, on the motorway at 5:30 am on saturday
Urm 7 in a space of 5 years, banned under totting up twice.
Been good ever since
I've been banned for speeding. I was 21, stupid, working as a motorbike courier, and the owner of a GSX-R 750 with the nackers tuned out of it, and a road legal (ish) KTM250 crosser, that went everywhere on the back wheel
Looking back, there was a certain inevitability to it. My record was getting pulled at 130 in a 50. Unbelievably, the BMW mounted traffic cop let me off with that one. It was early hours of the morning, with nowt on the road and I think he enjoyed the chase. I didn't even realise he'd been after me for about 10 miles. Can't imagine that happening nowadays
Learnt my lesson though. Being banned is a nightmare! Not so much as a parking ticket since

stopped by a copper for "running a red light" once too - not how I saw it but there you go. He let me off because my wife was shouting at me 😳
3 speeding 3 pointers in 24yrs. Not too bad as I must be doing 30k miles per year for most of those.
4 in 17 years. 3 for speeding, one for towing a trailer in the outside lane.
In a traffic Jam.
At 10mph.
None in 9 years.
0 in 4 years.. Nothing special.
1 in 6 years. I did a driver awareness course so i didn't get any points on my license 🙂
1 in 30 years (since I had licence). Went on a speed awareness course - the most useless and dangerous thing - points were quashed. I was towing my caravan at the time... doing 36 at the bottom of a hill entering a village at 5 to 1 in the morning.
1 in 25 years - 49 in a 30 zone...in an Austin Allegro! I was amazed it could go that fast - copper had no sense of humour sadly...
2 in 15 minutes. Most expensive pizza I've ever had.
None in 2 years. Pulled over twice one for a cracked number plate while I was driving to the garage to buy a new numberplate I was let off as I had documents with me to buy plate and told to use a taxi if I happened again. And pulled over once for driving 'suspiciously' whatever that means.
Love it! How do you drive 'suspiciously'! An exaggerated look round Secret Squirrel stylee? Or perhaps you wear a black and white stripey jumper with a mask and a bag with the word "SWAG" on it? 😆
None in 20 years I am a good boy!
Ohh I'm BAAAAD!
5 in 25 years. 3 on bikes (2 of those were very sneaky) one in a car and one in a van. Those 2 were unmarked vans.
Not had one for 6-8 years now though, clean license. And none of the ones I've ever ha has made the slightest difference to me in any way apart from loosing a bit of money.
Never actually got a fine in 18 years touch wood, had many warnings though like 2 motorbike cops who couldnt catch me as I was doing over twice the limit and when they did catch me I was stopped in traffic.
Im a good lad now, as my job dictates, and looking back the kind of behaviour above is ridiculous and deadly.
Had many, many, many producers when I was younger as I had a fast car and looked about 12. Still get some funny looks off coppers when Im instructing as I still look young from a distance.
Think my producer record was 5 in a week and I got pulled for driving a stolen car ( boxed in police camera action stylee ) when mine was red and the outstanding stolen was black, stopped for reports of a silver VW driving eratticly in the area ( the cop said "you are driving perfectly though" so I replied "well I would do, I had a police van behind for 5 miles 8) ) and so a young cop could have a look at my car coz he wanted to buy it off me 😯
2 in 30.. both recently and both on the same straight newish dual carriageway which although was perfectly fine as a single carriageway and a 60mph limit.. when they widened it and created the new dual carriageway they strangely reduced it to 50mph, at the same time created the perfect little hiddyhole for tax collection vans. 🙄
2 in 22 years, first one overtaking unmarked merc on M74 at 85. Nice clear sunny afternoon but knew as I pulled alongside I was done. 2nd overtaking a lorry in lake district got nabbed by a camera van, v annoying as was about only safe place to overtake but too expensive to fight it.
Am generally slower now esp driving a diesel estate.
2 in 17 years, entirely my fault.
0 in 23 years.
Two speeding offences.
SP30 and a SP70 in 22 years of driving.
But I do get pulled over a lot for random checks!
No speeding offences in 35 years
However did get two year ban for drink/riding on a triumph saint.
Best thing that ever happened in some ways, got back into cycling and never looked back
0 in 17 years. Although there was one time I swear I set a camera off (just after a speed limit change, I only realised it was a 40 after I saw the flash and was doing 50+), a nervous wait for post but nothing showed up. That did seem to be the trigger for me to start sticking more closely to the limits in future.
Which now means that pretty much every morning I get someone attempting a dodgy overtake on the way to work as they can't possibly be held up by someone driving at the speed limit.
Been driving 24 years and had one 3 pointer (35 right on the boundary of a 30/40 change) - was in a line of accelerating traffic which was annoying, as the gun was lifted when I was passing. That was around 17 years ago and had none since - that's not saying I always drive within the law, I just don't get caught (touches some wood)
I've had 3 in 14 years, but the last of those was 4 years ago so points free at the moment.

stopped by a copper for "running a red light" once too - not how I saw it but there you go. He let me off because my wife was shouting at me
Almost exactly the same except I was on a bike the officer let me off as he conceded that had I not I would have been crushed by the lorry that only just stopped in time!!
Zero in 37 years - I think it's because I've only ever driven cars that have a special dial that tell you what speed you're doing 😉
2 in 37 years. Once on a motorbike (90 on a motorway) and once in a 30 (not slowing down soon enough entering a village). That last one was 26 years ago.
Not one single point, not one single caution, nothing!
Not one single point, not one single caution, nothing!
same here and I drive between 30-50K a year (it is just dumb luck though, not though adherence to the laws of the land) 😀
1 in 15, SP30 86mph in a 70, coming downhill past QECP. Must have got loads from that camera van, I wasn't the fastest thing on the road by a long shot.
i was caught earlier this year (45 in a 30) 3 lane carriageway.
I was caught and i took the punishment like a man. 3 points and £60 fine, 5 weeks later i received a letter saying i had not handed my Licence in to the police station (i had) Long story short. They lost my licence and decided to re-imburse me the £60, knock the points off and give me £20 for a new Licence.
i also got caught on the a31 89 in a 70 i was sent to a speeding lesson for that.
Two SP30s in 27 years. Last one was about 13 years ago.
Used to get stopped fairly regularly in the early nineties when I was driving a modified Golf GTI (too low and too loud were the usual reasons but never got done for anything!) .
Once got stopped because the officer "thought my tyres were illegal". Now funnily enough they were all brand new - less than a week old. The traffic officer then proceeded to go over my car in incredible detail looking for problems. He couldn't find anything wrong and he allowed me to be on my way.
His parting words were "Well don't do it again". As I was driving a perfectly legal car in a perfectly legal manner I still wonder exactly what it was that I shouldn't do again.

(*does anyone else get flashed by the driver behind for sticking to a 30? or overtaken, in a 30?)
frequently 🙁
not just 30s either. 20s, 40s, 50s, NSL too. Then of course when the limit changes, you either catch up with them, or they carry on at whatever speed they'd been doing before.
flip the coin though, ever been held up by someone doing say 45 in a 60, then when you get to a 40 & they carry on still at 45?
[quote=john_drummer ] ever been held up by someone doing say 45 in a 60, then when you get to a 40 & they carry on still at 45?
🙂 Always!
Try driving a van for a while. You're limited to 50mph on single carriageways and you get artics and coaches flash at you for not going fast enough.
1 in 13 years, about 7 years ago. SP50 on the M4. Speed limit changed from 70 to 50 and I backed off, slowing down and then see a van on a bridge going over the motorway. Got a nice letter from the Gwent Constabulary saying I'd been going 57 in a 50. 3 points, £60 fine.
I too hate it when someone is pootling along at 40 in a national then stay at 40 when the limit changes to 30. Makes my blood boil. So much more dangerous to be speeding in a 30 than driving near or just over the speed limit in a national.
I had zero tickets in the UK (12 years driving cars & motorbikes). Since I left I've had >15 (lost count). Had them here in Belgium (plenty), Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France, Netherlands.... 😳
The costs are quite low, and without a points system (no totting up ban) it's worth the risk. I have to drive lots around Europe for my work (mostly DL) & to be honest I generally just go with the flow (fast flow). Poor excuse perhaps.
A lot when I was young and mad, way back 30 odd years ago when you got endorsements rather than points I had 8 or 9 of them continually.
In the end my dad persuaded me that I was probably better off racing my motorbikes rather than riding them on the road.
One of my mates actually had 32 endorsements on his licence at one point - we were bad 😀
nothing since 1985 though
2 in Australia in 1989. They seemed to be a bit more anal about applying the law than the Brits did at the time. None before or since.
3 in 21 years. Also had TS20 (crossed white line by 1mtr 👿 ) and Section59.
Its motorbikes, they do it to you.
0 in 23 yrs driving, passed test when i was 17 and bought a mini cooper with holes in the floor from the garage i served my apprenticeship at. Owned proper fast cars for the past 20 starting out when i was 22 with a lancia delta integrale i bought as damaged repairable and rebuilt the back end and ran that for a few years, never crashed a car on the road (loads on the track and barrel rolled a mk2 bda escort at 90mph in the forest - walked away with a broken finger) though never had a bump nor any insurance claim that was my fault, i save my speed for the track, i have an inherent distrust of every car on the road so i drive with the consideration that everyone else on the public road is out to kill me.
if the police were to enforce the speed limits on dual carriageways, and single lane roads for HGV's ,vans --it would be meltdown.
Every HGV is exceeding the limit (50) on the dual carriageway by me, on trunk roads they rarely stick to 40-- as druidh says 50 in a sprinter van will seem very slow!
2 in 33 years.
First one was in 1995, 90 in a 70, 3 points & £40 fine. Then earlier this year, 39 in a 30, speedawareness course, no points.
After 1 night in Manchester.
I was Charged with.
( furious driving ) 5 points
( refusing to give a specimen ) 8 pts
IN 10 ( no insurance ) 6 pts
MS 30 x 2 ( street offence ) 4 pts
MS 50 ( racing on a public highway ) 4 pts
MS 90 ( refusing to identify another driver ) 6 points
SP 30 x 3 6 pts.
Obligatory 4 year ban with compulsory advanced re-test plus a £3000 fine.
Then in 98 on a 1000cc EXUP, I overtook and then Raced a car and a motor bike over the cat and fiddle ( Both were braking the speed limit at the time ) up and across long hill into whaley bridge, when i got to the roundabout the road was blocked.
Turned out to be 3 of duty police officers.
Multiple speeding charges
lots of TS 20,s
And another 3 yr ban + £800 fine.
Never drove or ridden a motorbike on the road since,
But on a good note i do have quite a few bikes.
0 in 17 years,
Approaching 750,000 miles
You have to be blind, stupid or careless to drive with so little observation that your speeding and not able to see camera, car following etc...
0 in 16.
Don't have a completely clean sheet though: I pulled out in front of a cement mixer in 2001 though, completely wrote off the car and was lucky to walk away. The mixer driver maintained he was doing less than 30. He appeared suspiciously quickly on a completely empty road for someone who wasn't speeding, but never mind. I was charged with careless driving but the charge was dropped when I agreed to go on one of the test runs for the driver awareness courses they offer for less serious stuff nowadays.
3 points 22 years ago for crossing over a double white line with the osf wheel while going round a corner, and told off for having wheels which were wider than the car (was a yoof with spacers and wide wheels!). nothing since (well a very suspicious looking drug cop at Bilbao port but that another story). never been caught speeding tho!

Must be a stw record.

😯 @ Merchant Banker
Me - 3 times in 23 years, the worst oh which was 96 in a 50 on the A9 (although I am still convinced it was actually a 60) £300 fine and 6 points for that one. I was young and stupid and thought Edinburgh to Skye and back in the day, with a 4 hour meeting in the middle was a good idea. Steady boring eddy now!
Freakishly, none. Long overdue frankly. Er, 11 years on motorbikes, 3 in cars.
0 in 25 years of full licence and 10 years car ownership (low mileage TBF).
not that I'm sanctimonious tho.
0 in 27. But then I don't drive a great deal.

can you post a pic I want to be like you !
2 in 19 years both sp 30s but none in the last 10 years.
1st was in a diesel series 3 landrover, still have the ticket somewhere.
0 in 24 years
As much luck as careful driving
0 in 14 years, i do about 130k a year (long distance coach driver)
did get stopped for 'unusual riding' once, had a copper follow me through 3 towns on my bike, id spotted them so kept EXACTLY to all speed limits (in 1st gear all the way too) eventually they got bored and pulled me.
apparently a biker not speeding is highly unusual.
EDIT: i dont normally speed much, i dont actually believe it saves much time.
Aged 18, In a knackered looking mk1 ford fiesta which I had just finished a rebuild to the engine to make it sing, I was stopped doing 120 mph, they found a shotgun in my boot and for some strange reason they did not book me for speeding 😉
Sold the car afterwards, last time I messed with speeding on the road, lesson learnt
2 in 18-ish years. Can't complain with near enough 478,000 miles in my own vehicles. Just wait, tomorrow I'll be banned.
that's not saying I always drive within the law, I just don't get caught (touches some wood)
Just keep yer hands on the wheel, laddie. ;O)
Zero in 28 years. Including 10 years commuting 30,000 miles pa.
Of course there was the time, very early on a Saturday morning on the M6 toll when I went around the corner at about 90-ish, to see three police cars pulling people over. I escaped on the grounds that they had already apprehended three cars, and I was the fourth (lucky, as my wife never forgets to remind me).
None in 21 years driving.
Caught once doing 75 in a 60 on the A75.
Not bad going in 23 years of having held a full licence.
one in 5 years rolled through temporary red light at road works near my house you could see the other side and there being no traffic there the lights used to take an age to go through the cycle and change to green, rolled through and got caught by a unmarked police car that was parked on the end of a road close by, two days before xmas last year £60 and three points merry xmas from north wales police.
None in 30 years. Lost count of the number of times I've seen 170.
Once in 20 years. 97 mph on a duel carriageway when I was 25 😳
Must be a stw record.58 posts before a sanctimonius reply. Good view from up there on your high horse?
You obviously missed:
I think it's because I've only ever driven cars that have a special dial that tell you what speed you're doing
15 or so posts earlier.
Personally 2 in 26 years. Both forward facing mobile ones over the brow of a hill that you would have needed x-ray eyes to see before they nabbed you - clearly I'm not as awesome as stufield.
None in 23 years, although I've been caught speeding twice.
First one was 110 on the M6 in the mid '90's. The policeman gave me a right bollocking and then let me off with a warning.
Second one was 45 through 30mph roadworks with a sign that said "speed cameras to protect road workers". It was a Saturday and nobody was working so my notice of intended prosecution was rescinded.
I generally tootle around the place nowadays.

You mean I can ignore temporary roadworks speed limits if they have a sign saying that? 😯 (given that most of the time I drive through is at weekends when nobody is working)
