Hmmmm, this does make me wonder whether innocent flirting is dying out, and all these websites where you can hook up with someone for casual sex without having got to know the other person are the norm rather than the exception?
Or maybe I'm over-interpreting!

Theres a whole load of normal folk out there, that actually like flattery and being flirted with.

They're called Normal.

Its a very sad state of affairs if a wink, a comment or smile is seen as oppressive, what a waste of humanity.

I am starting to feel guilty about enjoying the flirting by the ladies in my local S'bucks - perhaps I should try to get them fired. They are outrageous after all.

On the lesser of two evils, which is worse partonising a company that doesn't pay the correct amount of taxes or working there and being so very naughty? Hmmm....

I think the mother is really annoyed at that fact that she's obviously past her best.

Spot on. I'll bet she's one of those that describes herself and her daughter as 'best friends'.

What a load of nonsense this all is.

If the customers do not initiate the conversation you keep mute! Simple!

Sarcasm?

I can imagine a load of LBS workers wanting to flog the latest £3k enduro bike but keeping schtum when a customer comes in as they don't want to be seen as a pervert.

No.

I doubt the LBS will go around calling all their customers hot just because they want to sell a £3k bike ...

What's next? The car dealer hires prostitutes to sell their cars in exchange for some quick sells? ... hmmm ... thinking of it that might be a good idea.

There is a whole world of different trying to sell an expensive item by prostituting oneself than that of a creepy perverted action selling a cup of coffee.

😯

IMO harassment only starts after you've made it clear you're not interested

So if the recipient of the unwanted attention says nothing because you're her boss, then it's ok?

Unless you're an appalling person, most rules of thumb about this stuff come with caveats, including (but not limited to):

- if you are obviously in a position of greater power than the flirtee, err on the side of assuming they are not interested; and

- if the flirtee does not respond reasonably enthusiastically, err on the side of reading their non-verbal cues as indicating that they are not interested.

🙂
