Just had a call from the wife saying we've had a letter from our factors informing us the company that built our block of flats has went into administration and that going forward any costs for remedial repair work to the flat will be borne by the residents!
Does anyone know how the builder going into administration affects the 10 year NHBC warranty we have? Is there any scheme or facility in place to assist residents in this kind of scenario?
sorry but i have found the nhbc warranty to be a total pile of poo,completely worthless anyway in my experience. unless your house falls down they dont want to know, and they would still side with the developers and blame you for it.
I 2nd flatback's comments.. When I made a claim, I had to endure 2.5yrs of NHBC incompetence.
Our developer went bust, too while we were trying to get them to sort out damage from flooding last summer. In the end the factors fixed the work under insurance - I think to avoid having to go through NHBC, which kind of suggests its worth.
****sticks
Same here. I help run the management company for the building my flat is in, and NHBC have been very effective at telling us a variety of claims are not their problem. We ended up taking the developer to court after five years of obfuscation (by the developer, not NHBC - they didn't bother) to get results.
In the future, I would regard NHBC cover as effectively useless - it's a marketing tool for developers and estate agents. If you can't get issues addressed at the snagging stage for a new build, you're on your own.
NHBC is pants - its a licence for the builder to laugh at you..
To be fair the flats have been up for 3 years and we've had no problems to date with the actual buildings. We have more problems with the actual factors who I hope burn in hell for eternity!!!
NHBC, took the premiums, and the developers took your money, probably nothing you can do, only sue the directors as individuals.
Factors = Cowboys!
