My wife broke part of her had and the emergency surgery was not that successful. The Dr said it was urgent that she saw a hand specialist while there was still time to try and correct it before healing badly.
Just got a letter with an appointment through for September 15th.
Phoned to say apologise for missing the appointment and explain the late delivery of the letter just to be told it was September 15th 2021
September 2021 for an urgent appointment. WTF!
I don't know what to say, other than you can probably work out why.
Does seem odd though, if you were going to offer appointments in 12 months time, you'd stick the year on it.
Personally I was told 6 months ago I needed urgent surgery, obvs it got cancelled, finally went back 2 weeks ago to confirm it was still urgent and sign a revised, covid spec consent form, She didn't have an Anesthetist available at the time to book my surgery, but I'd get a call in 3/4 days, it's been 14...
They did stick the year on it, we didn't spot that assuming it would be less than a 12 month waiting list.
I think it was about two years between me getting x-rayed and diagnosed with a break (after twice being fobbed off that it wasn't broken) and the corrective surgery for me. Surgeon opened me up and said there wasn't much he could do now. He did say it'd be more prone to arthritis now, so that was something.

Crikey! To wait a year for an urgent appointment!😱
You should go back to explain the urgency.
If the finances are right, have you looked at going private?
You should go back to explain the urgency.
I'm sure they'd be able to explain, in very stark terms, where a busted hand sit on their current Importance v Urgency Matrix.
And I have an equally busted wrist.
Of all the people on here to have a partner break a bone it had to be you didn't it?
How urgent? If days then you are stuffed as getting a private appointment will take too long
Weeks, go private, even if just for the first assessment and a realistic view on what can be done
(Busted wrist, permanent impingement of movement due to NHS cockup that even £10k of private ops couldn't fix)
Going private. Against principles but I am not letting my wife lose the use of her 'stroking' hand
Going private. Against principles but I am not letting my wife lose the use of her ‘stroking’ hand
Just go private if you can afford as the money is not worth saving. Imagine without the "stroking" hand life be miserable with no more joy.
Far too much information WCA.
I'd double check that they did get the "urgent" part of the message. Private appointment for review may push you up the NHS list for surgery.
Waiting times were increasing pre Covid, my mum is waiting on a cataract op, she's a long wait coming I fear, and considering going private.

The money is worth a shot.

That deserves some credit!!! 😀
I’m not Surprised it’s in the consultant’s best interests to make waiting lists as long as possible. It fires wonders for their private work. I bet if you offered to pay you could see the same person within 2 weeks
Sell the cars and the "sculptures" and go private
Ring the consultants secretary and see if it was incorrectly listed.
If not explain that you were told urgency was important and ask them to speak to the consultant.
Try private if you wish, but there may be delays there too at the moment as many NHS organisations have taken private capacity.
This is all due to that little know bug called COVID.

Not in the slightest.
As Funky says ring their secretary ask if anything is free in coming months, be polite and say you’re happy for short notice if there’s any cancellations.
