What car will take 3 peoples and 3 bikes plus all the camping kit fo r afew day with a relative comfort?

So far I can either take something along the lines of a Fiat Multiplat with 3 seat on the front, or an estate and move the seat when needed.
Would try to avoid Van due to high cost if needed
What are the expériences of the STW collective?

you can do that in a golf estate.

Any reasonable sized estate with a 2:1 split rear seat.

Octavia estate.

Just getting the standard stw answer in first.
Thing is it is actually a damn good option. Not expensive and pretty well bomb proof

We are talking bikes on roof right?
I can get three inside an Astra estate but there'd be no room for camping gear.

Yup. And watch out because some fanny at Ford decided it was a good idea to make the seatbacks 2:1 but the benches single piece on some models, I've never seen this on anything not blue ovalled but maybe it happens.

But to be fair the uglipla is really good for this with the 3 front seats and massive square "boot".

TBH if I used mine (mondeo) for a lot of camping with bikes I'd get a roof box. Not because i'd need the space, it's massive, but for convenience and separation. It can be pretty annoying, riding bikes out of a loaded car, lots of loading and reloading and soon everything's upside down and in the wrong place or covered in mud. So living stuff on roof, biking stuff in car.

Relative comfort is very subjective - I hate being piggy in three seaters.
Some of the medium sized people carriers have rear seats that can be removed completely. I'm guessing things like Zafiras and Picassos would. Then you could have the bikes in stood up with just the front wheel out. Likewise Berlingo.

Whilst 3 up front in our Honda FRV is great when the middle is my 7 year old daughter I'm not sure it would be so great with a large adult in between.

That's a good call. However, as an ex Ford Galaxy owner, I'm going to see the SMax and raise it with....a Ford Galaxy.

All the advantages of the SMax - 7 seats, all 5 rear seats fold into the floor, drives like a car rather than like a van - but with loads more room for people, pushbikes and paraphernalia..
