Haven't been since just before Tito died and Yugoslavia fractured so.....long time ago.
Anyway, anyone have more recent experience and any comments?
I'm thinking one of the islands off Dubrovnik.
Been to Rovinj twice, beautiful.
Years since I went. We sea kayaked around the islands and it was stunning. Great food, hot, crystal waters. Would recommend it.
It was part of a longer trip. We spent some time in Dubrovnik (a few days). We also spent a week up in Plitvice national park. Did some canoeing, walking, (V. easy) mountain biking, swimmng in river, jumping off water falls, drinking beer and having BBQs in the sunshine.
We used these guys (all be it 10 years ago) to sort out equipment and some guiding but also trip advisor etc as it is all pretty straight forward.

Watching the dh world cup there recently had made me want to go. Looks stunning.

My thread from a few years ago, enjoyed it all, Hvar was lively but not crazy, Mljet was serene and beautiful. Would like to have visited more islands but ticked off Split and Dubrovnik both of which were great. Very enjoyable holiday..
Went at the end of summer last year on a boat trip around the islands in Kvarner Bay, had an amazing time. Highly recommended!
RM.
Been to Slovenia next door and it was great, landscape, weather and really friendly people. Definitely need a trip to Croatia at some point.
i've been 3 or 4 times in the last 10 years, love it, beach break or scenery / walking its all good,
depending how you get their i'd recommend flying into zadar/split/dubrovnik/tivat (near kotor, montenegro).
we always fly into one and out of another (ryanair/jet2/easyjet) from manchester,
and travel by boat or coach (never needed a car tbh)
aircon coaches (8-12 quid for most 2-3 hr journeys) are reasonable
as are the boats (jadroliniji / crillo jet / kapetan luka)
if you are stopping in multiple places, remember boats only sail every other day in some directions, and so planning a route and accomodation on islands at the same time is advised.
to be honest i've enjoyed everywhere i've been
dubrovnik does get busy 24-48Â hours max is enough for me,
split - good town for an overnight, busy nightlife
bol - good beach, quietish
hvar - people watching nice oldtown/castle (paklinski island 20 mins away)
korcula (nice walled oldtown, beachs across the sea, or across the island by bus.
zadar - old town and numerous islands
kotor - brilliant old town, cheap food and drink, lovely bay to cycle around.
sibenik - good base for the plitvice lakes 6 daily buses), not very touristy but good old town and restaurants/bars
i still need to get to miljet and vis, that reminds me i must look at flights
Went last year in October - was lush. I would add Markarska to the list of places, wasn't as busy as split but had some lovely little restaurants & a marina. Totally recommend Hrpina restaurant in the square, the host was a huge amount of fun.
The old town in Dubrovnik is impressive. We kayaked around an island & stopped for lunch & snorkling on a beach.
Even in October the weather was nice, like a nice summer's day over here.
Went to the DH WC last month, absolutely stunning part of the world, would 100% recommend a trip to the islands.
